how many hoops do I have to jump so that I can list my wife as a joint member on my credit card so that her name will show up on the monthly statement as well???

this really sucks.

I am trying to have my wife's name listed on the monthly credit card statement, so it can be used as a piece of evidence... but the stupid credit card companies are giving me a hard time. They sent me an application form. After I filled it out and sent it back, they sent me another letter, saying I must give them copies of my wife's SSN card, some kind of bills showing her living at the present address, something showing her date of birth etc. WTH? It is just a stupid credit card company, and it is just for a stupid joint account, why do they ask me for these non-sense?

Another credit card is even worse - I wanted to give a card to my mom so she could use it (she doesn't have a job), but they somehow added her name as a joint member... yet nobody told me anything better. Now I wanted to list my wife as the joint member, and they said no because you can only have only 1 joint member, and once you have a joint member, you cannot remove that name... this is total bull #######... and that low-wit customer representative even mocked me on the phone, saying "well, you can't blame anyone, because you put yourself into this situation" screw him and screw Discover Card (heh... did I just leak out which company it was?)

Having a card that is tied to your account (but with your spouse's name on it) is different than being listed as an account holder.

Having an account requires an application and an approval - not many ways around this unfortunately.

Have a GM Mastercard, one call to them and they sent my wife a card with her name on it, but the number was the same as mine and the bill still comes in my name. But with her card, she started receiving tons of mail from different credit card companies, just like I do. But our GM card had limits in out of country purchases, so she went to our bank and they issued her a card in seconds. Once you have a card with a high credit score, can easily get another card in seconds like at checking out at a store and being offered a 20% additional discount if you sign up for their store card.

While her card is based on our joint bank account, I had to log in with her SS number and ID stuff to see the balance on her card, but still see the same joint checking account information. But I have billpay on my account that doesn't appear on her or should I say our account. I asked the bank about this as to why they can't combine it, against some kind of privacy law or something like that.

I don't make the rules. Just log in on two different of the same account.

BankAmerica and American Express handle adding your spouse from their website, if she has an SSN. Piece of cake. Wasn't useful in the AOS interview, however, as there was plenty of other evidence of a bona fide marriage.

First, you will not need it for the AOS interview, do not worry. You should have plenty of other evidence that you are married and live together. There is no requirement you share creidt cards and my wife did not want to be put onto any accounts, not even electric bill, as she does not like "credit" and does not like that we pay things in arrears (credit) rather than in advance like she did in Ukraine. We did get her a cell phone in her name and we recently added satelite TV in her name. She had to pay a deposit for each but she will now get credit established for her. These accounts are in her name only and she did not change her name when married. So do not worry. We had a virtually "no questions asked: AOS interview which lasted a total of 13 minutes including waiting time, probably less than 8 minutes in the office.

We were not asked for even piece of "evidence" other than her passport and I-94.

Eh, Discover is notorious for making first-time applicant jump through hoops--and I'm guessing it uses exactly the same strategy for add-on users.

Amex: fairly easy, they'll send second card with slightly different number

Visa (BofA): really easy, second card has same number
