Hi All,

I came to US three weeks ago on a K1 visa.

We got married ten days ago and sent the Adujustment of Status documents+working authorization documents+advance parole documents today.

Do you have any idea when I will receive a working permit? Will I really have to wait for like 90 days for a working permit or will they send something like a temp. working permit to get me started? I found a few temporary jobs throught friends and I need to work but I don't want to work without a working permit. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Good luck to you all.

Hello;

It usually takes about 3 months to get EAD. In the mean time, you are not supposed to work, but you can work under table, of course. After you get your EAD, you can apply for SS# & when you are doing this, you can change your last name too. Assuming they have already received your docs by now, so you can expect to see your EAD in at the end of May, give another 10 days for SS#. So you can start working legally June 15, 2009 or earlier. Good luck on your Journey. I am Turkish also & my wife is USC. I have been living in this country since 1992. Talk to you later. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me. Take Care...

That is illegal and against the TOS of this site.

• Condone or instruct, either directly or indirectly, others on how to commit fraudulent or illegal immigration activities in any way, shape, manner or method.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

Please dont suggest to people that they undertake illegal work during their immigration journey. As already pointed out it is against TOS for VJ.

If you haven't already done so, apply for your Social Security Number now. If you are changing your name through marriage bring your marriage certificate, otherwise apply in your maiden name. K-1s are allowed to get SSN as long as the I-94 is valid and has at least 2 weeks left before expiry. You can certainly be looking for work but explain to your potential employer that you are waiting for your work authorization and it might be 2 to 3 months. They may be willing to wait. Good luck.

According to the social security site, the I-94 is temporary permission to work for certain people and K1 is listed as someone that can work without any other authorization. But you still need a SS card. Read it for yourself, but that is what it says http:/policy.ssa.gov/poms.nsf/links/0100203500
