No, not really, it's about human rights. I don't know if they have a case or not, it's not my job to know but I am happy that the US is a place where human rights issues are taken seriously, well, at least some of the time.

blah.gif more like a way to get rich and dissuade citizens from getting involved. if you'd read the story i posted, you'd see that about the civil rights was thrown out.

someone must have been reading a different story or the story didn't say what someone wanted to hear?

If something was 'thrown out' then it was under consideration to be thrown out. This is not about making cash out of US citizens or preventing US citizens from behaving in a lawful fashion on their own property, it's about the treatment of illegal aliens by legal citizens when they trespass on their property. On reading the article, it seems that the judge is very much leaning in favour of the US citizen, that he behaved properly. However, to find that out, the case needs to be tested.

By the way, what happened to your 'left wing' court system? Seems you jumped the gun, mate

do try to stay on topic and refrain from the wild tangents with your left wing court yada yada.

you musta missed this little gem in the story:

Barnett detained the trespassing illegals until Border Patrol agents arrived. The lawsuit claimed that the rancher never told the illegals they were trespassing and failed to post a sign notifying them that they were on private property.

see anything wrong with that? it should be obvious. it's a frivolous lawsuit. and it is about making cash off of someone and dissuading citizens from getting involved for fear of court action.

i do have to wonder who bankrolled this goat rope.....

The group also flew a psychologist to Arizona from Chicago to testify that the illegal aliens suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

"We don't know where they're getting their money, but it's a lot," Hardy said. "They dropped $19,000 on the psychologist for his examination and $150 an hour to show up for trial."

While some aspects of the suit seem farcical (a la Judge Judy) It would seem to me that this case is about punishing people for taking the law into their own hands.

The rancher assumed that the trespassers were illegal immigrants and appears to have acted in accordance with his assumptions. What questionable about that is that as he isn't a Homeland Security or other Federal Agent/law enforcement official - he doesn't have the authority under law to verify those assumptions in order to justify detaining people on the basis of a violation of immigration laws.

So the only thing on his side surely is the fact that people were trespassing on his property - but even there your options are somewhat limited.

People should look to their elected representatives to get redress on the issue of illegal immigration. It doesn't justify private citizens going Dirty Harry.
