Saudi judge sentences pregnant gang-rape victim to 100 lashes for committing adultery

A Saudi judge has ordered a woman should be jailed for a year and receive 100 lashes after she was gang-raped, it was claimed last night.

The 23-year-old woman, who became pregnant after her ordeal, was reportedly assaulted after accepting a lift from a man.

He took her to a house to the east of the city of Jeddah where she was attacked by him and four of his friends throughout the night.

She later discovered she was pregnant and made a desperate attempt to get an abortion at the King Fahd Hospital for Armed Forces.

According to the Saudi Gazette, she eventually 'confessed' to having 'forced intercourse' with her attackers and was brought before a judge at the District Court in Jeddah.

He ruled she had committed adultery - despite not even being married - and handed down a year's prison sentence, which she will serve in a prison just outside the city.

She is still pregnant and will be flogged once she has had the child.

The Saudi Arabian legal system practices a strict form of medieval law. Women have very few rights and are not even allowed to drive.

They are also banned from going out in public in the company of men other than male relatives

Once spent 5 days in Saudi Arabia, was the worst 5 months of my life.

Terrible.

Of course the DM and its readers have no objection to Saudi-style corporal punishment when they feel that the victim "deserves it".

 I haven't yet met any Brits (including to right of David Duke) who actually welcome imprisoning someone and then beating the shite out of them post-sentence-serving.

Emmett Fitz-Hume: I'm sorry I'm late, I had to attend the reading of a will. I had to stay till the very end, and I found out I received nothing... broke my arm.

In this case, the judge didn't even bother searching--and they're at large.

Nothing here indicates that "no effort was made to find the alleged rapists". My understanding of the law here in Saudi is that if they (the rapists) are identified and caught, the consequences for them are worse. Unfortunately as both parties get punished the victim (as was in this case) attempts to hide the crime, time passes, and there is nothing the legal system can do. The law here is not secret. Single women and men are NOT allowed to be alone together in public. They check couples all the time for proof of marriage at the mall, market, etc and it's a bad thing (even for a USC) to be found with an unmarried member of the opposite sex. Crime of any type here is rare indeed. As draconian as the laws may sound, it appears to me that on an outcome basis they appear to be effective.

i don't get it.

More typically, the culprits are witnesses for each other so they go free. You can find literally thousands of these cases on the web. Have a friend that is bugged by this and always sending me stuff he finds. What am I suppose to do about it? If I had a B-29 and a Big Boy, could fly over and blow the country to kingdom come.

Stoning women for adultery is as old as the bible itself, Mohamed really loved that part and they do not have separation from religion and state.

You apparently missed a critical detail in the article. A judge who doesn't even make the effort to read about adultery (an unmarried woman CANNOT commit it) is certainly not going to bother even looking for the rapists.
