Copy of Birth Certificate Front and Back

Hi All,

Well Im in the final stages of putting together my I-129. I have a question though why do you need a copy of the front and back of your birth certificate? I have a certfied copy of mine (since the original is kept at the state house) and there is nothing on the back. Im from Ohio do some states use both front and back? Also should I leave a note explaining this in my packet? Thanks for your help in advance. This site has meant a lot to me and I would like to thank all of you that work hard at answering our questions and keeping this place up and running.

I used only a copy of my complete (front cover to back cover) US Passport. I did not send my birth certificate. I was using visa stamps as proof of meeting.

Some, not all, birth certificates have "water marks" faint markings on the back which show the document is authentic. Mine does. I had to adjust the exposure of the copier in order to get it to show up on the copy. I would send copies front and back, if it is blank, oh well.

if you copy the front... turn over the original and the copy... are they the same? if so, you have also a copy of the back without running it through the machine... it is magic

I just sent a copy of the front. I found it silly to send a blank copy of "the back"... But including it to be on the safe side is probably the right thing..

Here's a suggestion for you. Compare the back of your certified copy with the back of your photocopy and see if they are identical. If they are, (I'm pretty sure they will be.) you HAVE supplied a copy of the front and back. Then in your cover letter, where you list your birth certificate add the following (a one-sided document).

Mine has no back, so I sent the copies of the passport as well. Doing both can't hurt!

Along these lines, if I'm submitting all pages of my passport as evidence of my citizenship, will my fiancee need to bring my original passport to the interview? I'm also using passport stamps as evidence of meeting, so I think I may have answered my own question.

Thanks for that. Does this also apply with ongoing relationship evidence? We plan on getting together in Canada for a few days while her K-1 is pending (to avoid US border difficulties). Would copies of those pages be okay? I can go get certified copies of my birth certificate and mail them off no problem but I'd rather not be without my passport.
