you like marmite? i thought vegemite was the choice for kiwis/aussies?

i managed to find marmite in a few stores here, it's really expensive but totally worth it of course. ;) i really want some golden syrup so i can make some flapjacks, i've looked around for it but i think i'm gonna have to order that online. i don't know if you're familiar with branston pickle but i really would love to find that too although i'm not too hopeful about that one. i'm not too bothered about the change in food apart from bread and lack of healthy food in general. the bread here is mushy and squidgy and the bakery here only sells fresh white bread, i'm fiending for some fresh wholemeal!

it's been pretty hot down here too, very humid and sticky, does i get like that there too?

i can't drive, i learned but never took my test, so i haven't really attempted driving here. we did do a few spins around a parking lot to get used to being on the wrong side of the road but that is all. driving an automatic definitely helped with getting used to being on the wrong side, do you have one? i long for the day that i can go and get groceries on my own! there's pretty much no bus here so i'm at home all day, i at least have a cat and dog to keep me company. :) i've been doing some gardening, i had some tomatoes growing but the dog knocked over the planter of seedlings so they died, i'm going to try again though. i tried growing them in england but the heat was never really enough to get them right, i'm hoping it will be a different story here. what did you plant in your vege garden?

if you go to england, be sure to go in the summer time hehe. ;)

I usually get asked what state Bermuda is in. When I tell them it's an island country in the Atlantic, I oftern hear "But your English is so good." Bermuda is a British colony.

that's hilarious and doesn't surprise me at all. ;)

We have both in NZ. Grew up on Vegemite then discovered Marmite years later. I like em both but prefer marmite. I got a jar of marmite from the Aussie store, but he informs me it's English marmite so I'll let you know if there's a difference...lol Here's a linky to Amazon for the Branston http://www.amazon.com/gp/tagging/items-tag...le&search=1 They don't have pickle here like we know it, believe me I've tried to find it. Most of the supermarkets here do wholemeal bread. Try and find one without sugar coz they use corn syrup to sweeten things here and it makes things taste completely different. (I can only vouch for what's not available in the town I live in). Missing the Dilmah tea too. :crying:

I'm used to driving a manual, but Chris has an automatic, which I was really glad about as it made it alot easier to get used to driving on the wrong side of the road. In the beginning I don't think I could have coped with a manual. The first few times I took the car out on my own and got groceries etc I spent like 6hrs at Walmart  ....lol Don't worry, Chris' cat & Netflix kept me sane through the long winter months at home.

Ive planted plenty of tomatoes, a herb garden, strawberries, cucumbers, courgettes (zucchini), and lettuces, just the things we eat most so it won't go to waste. I plan on making relish with all the tomatoes, something else I can't find here. With the rain we've had and now the heat's set in, (32 celcius here today), they're growing like crazy. The summer weather in Arkansas is like the tropics, hot and steamy....lol

Sorry this is all "off topic" guys

Missing the Dilmah tea too. :crying:

That was the first thing I had to find when I got here... I love Dilmah, and nothing else (that I know of) compares to it so I had to find it. None of the supermarkets have any of it, but Amazon of all places sells Dilmah for a pretty reasonable price.

I ordered about 12 months worth so that I don't have to worry about running out just yet :)

On a more on-topic note, I got the email saying my "approval notice" has been sent. I can't believe how quickly the USCIS have processed this one. I was expecting another 12 months of torture and instead I only had to endure 2 months

Couldn't have done it without all the help from everyone here on VJ so thanks all :)

My permanent resident card arrived today!

It came in a completely plain envelope instead of the one with the USCIS markings. I guess they must get stolen in the mail even though they have the person's picture and fingerprint on them.
