Can you file AOS in-person?

My wife (then fiancee) came on a K1 visa in May. She got her Social Security Number right away without a problem. In December, my stepdaughters came on K2 visas. We went to SSA office but they said that they couldn't get a SSN until they get an EAD. I knew this but we were at SSA so we tried. Here's the part that's confusing to me. He said we can go and apply for the EAD in-person. He says we can receive the EAD in a couple of weeks. All this doesn't sound right, but he seemed pretty confident when explaining it to us. I have never heard of this. Is this possible? If this is possible, can we apply for AOS in-person or just EAD?

He gave me a referral list and highlighted:

Dept of Homeland Security

Immigration & Naturalization Svcs

26 Federal Plaza

New York, NY 10278

(212) 264-5650

Has anybody been there for the purpose of applying for EAD and/or AOS?

No, they do not do this anymore, they used to allow you to file for an EAD in person, but now you need to mail in an EAD application along with the AOS application. You have to wait in line just like veryone else. Best of luck to you.

no harm no foul if you try.... but generally speaking the answer is that the USCIS does NOT accept walk-in applications....

YMMV
