Hi there,

I am from Italy.

My boyfriend sent 1 month ago the all package and the check was cashed! We are waiting for any signal from the immigration in Vermont. I am soon leaving for the US (hopefully I won't have any problem) to visit him and stay there 90 days.

Is there something I can start doing before to leave? I know that I will have to give my Consulate a police certificate but I am afraid that it's a little bit too soon to do that. Please is there anyone...hopefully Italian...that can tell me all the next steps!

Thanks for being in this amazing website...we couldn't start without you!

There is really not much you can do at this point in time.

There is lots you can do to save yourself weeks in the future. Go to the website of the consulate you will use. Download packet 3 from the website and begin collecting all the documents you will need. Police certificates are typically good for one year, so it is probably not too early to do this. All documents you have in Italian will need to be translated, maybe you have someone there that can do this? Maybe your fiance knows someone. Look around, check prices and availablility of translation services, they can take from a few days to a few eeks and can range from very reasonable costs, to very expensive. Get all that arranged, or finished, now. By the time you get your NOA2 you should have ALL interview documents prepared, copied, translated and packaged for the consulate. As soon as the consulate says they have your case, call for an interview or send the package (dpends on how the consulate does it) and you will save weeks of waiting while they send the Packet 3 to you (you won't need it by then) and THEN collect the documents. You can be WAY ahead of the game this way. If your fiance will be handling the translations, bring copies of the originals with you so he can get working on that now.

When you come to visit, be sure to buy a round trip ticket, bring with you some documentation showing you have ties to Italy so they know you will return before the visa is issued. A letter showing you have employment is excellent, check stubs, property which you own, etc. You will have to convince the officer at passport control that even though you have expressed an interest in emigrating to the United States, you are not doing it right now. I have heard mixed results on this, most people get through OK. I think there is no need to mention the K-1 visa petition unless you are asked, but then be honest about it.
