I don't think many American men realize the numbers. And the numbers are getting more desperate. Not for the Kanos, but for the young Pinay. I was curious, after my bride "found me" on PenPalNet.com, how many Filipino women were looking to contact American men. So, I just checked for 18 year old girls from the Philippines, and there was 18,000 profiles, compared to a few hundred for men in my age group, 41-50 at the time. That was over two years ago. Numbers don't lie and there is desperation there. That all of us on VJ found true love is either a miracle, or a testament to the determination of the ladies of the Philippines.

So, let's not kid ourselves!

--Bullwinkle

granted...the 18,000 profiles may have duplicates or triplicates...so we can't rely on that....but the numbers mentioned in the article has credibility...and those numbers don't lie. the increase is alarming...i agree with bullwinkle.

not one filipina here in VJ would ever admit to have married a USC for economic reason, albeit not the only reason but a major one...and not one USC will ever say that their Filipina wife married them for that.

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...

There's a huge difference between the women who marry Americans to get a green card (and a credit card) & then dump him the day after they get their citizenship vs. the women who are looking for love & a better life. Lets be honest here... if you met your significant other through a matchmaking site you initially selected a number of pretty women & ended up with the woman you hit it off with the most (and hopefully vice versa). As long as the feelings are real & the intentions genuine (from both parties) I don't see anything wrong with this.

Now if you are a 50 year old man and your target audience is 18-20 year old women I would seriously question your intentions. Granted there are always exceptions but generally speaking this situation does & should raise some red flags.

I need to correct the number, it was more like 1800, the more I think about it, but that still puts it at about 1:30 for much older men vs. much younger women. Of course all the older men are not looking for teenagers, and vice versa. In my case, I was curious as to the numbers, having already been "hooked, line and sinker", for one only 14 years my younger.

i find this article offensive being a USC married to a Filipina. My wife is highly educated and has no problem supporting her family with her income but because she chose a foreigner to marry she should be branded as some kind of pathetic soul. that is so wrong. The fact of the matter is the Philippine Government is mostly to Blame for this situation, if they focused more on eliminating the corruption running rampant in their government and less time on pushing issues like this, maybe Filipinos would have more options to remain in the Philippines and the whole social structure could improve. As far as the domestic violence for Filipinos abroad goes there are far more instances of abuse coming from employers of " helpers" and entertainers than from abuses by foreign spouses and it is offensive for this type of article to state it so unfairly.

I agree. However, it is true that there are a lot of people that marry for such reasons, which is very scary. It isn't just Filipinos that do this though. There are a lot of people around the world that marry for the same if not, worse reasons! I am not offended by the article at all because I know I am not one of them girls but I feel bad for those who would risk themselves for their family's sake. This is sad.

when i said marry for economic reason...i didn't mean GC fraud. a lot of people marry for economic reasons with or without the GC issues...nothing wrong with that.

Among the recommendations of the ADB was to tap remittances from

overseas Filipinos for productive investment and sustainable livelihood

opportunities for women so that migration becomes a choice rather than a

necessity.

i would rather that it would be a choice. i see that some are doing it out of necessity...as i read some of the postings here on how they love their life in the Philippines and hate it here...hate being married...can't wait to get out...like they were forced into it to begin with. well, maybe they were...due to economic reasons.

The capacity of the Philippine government to give back what's due to the Filipino people is the root cause of all this. Just think about what kind of circus people are running the show. The first gentleman, who is a genius when it comes to unscrupulous conduct has got his hands in all the corruption cases currently being taken up right now. How better can that get? Of course, everybody has to survive... this is just one of the social patterns of behavior that the Filipino people are doing as there is a continuous struggle to survive.

That's just one web site, there are many sites hooking up men around the world with beautiful, young Filipinas

What would a 50 year old man have in common with an 18 year old? Physical attraction is very important but you also need to have common interests & goals. As I see it physical attraction & a healthy sex life are the glue that holds a relationship together, but if that's all you have then it's just one big sticky glob of glue!

Grandpa likes to hand out money to his grandbaby...Its a weird relationship, but its more like a father daughter relationship...or a grandfather and his grandaughter.

Grandpa like to send his grandbaby to the candy store...the money flows more easily out of an old mans hands, and the young girls is more open to go out and spend at will with not alot care of how much to spend. Grandpa feels good handing the money over, and the grandchild enjoys going out spending like a child. I see it alot here in California.

Older men are much more laid back, easy going. Young women like that.
