Heart Wrenchers and Happy Tales

OK, I posted this in another thread but in hindsight, I think it's a good enough tale to warrant it's own thread. If anyone else has any other happy tales to tell then please go for it. This one is just to get you started.

This photograph shows a red Doberman kissing an exhausted fireman. He had just saved her from a fire in her house, rescuing her by carrying her out of the house into her front yard, while he continued to fight the fire.

She is pregnant. The firefighter was afraid of her at first, because he had never been around a Doberman before. When he finally got done putting the fire out, he sat down to catch his breath and rest. A photographer from the Charlotte, North Carolina newspaper, "The Observer," noticed this red Doberman in the distance looking at the fireman. He saw her walking straight toward the fireman and wondered what she was going to do. As he raised his camera, she came up to the tired man who had saved her life and the lives of her babies, and kissed him, when the photographer snapped this photograph.

Have the Kleenex ready.

Don't hate me, but I must do this...

First let me say that I cried when I saw that. But being the cynical woman that I am, I thought a pregnant dog being carried out of a burning house was a little over the top. Not that I don't think it happens, it just seemed...padded in the way lots of feel good emails out there are. I checked with my good buddy Scopes.com.

http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/gratitude.asp

We didn't do anything (special) to save Cinnamon. When we have a house fire, we have to do a primary search. There could be people home and inside. Our first major concern is life safety. That house was full of smoke and we couldn't see it very well. All I saw was a dog run out, and one was (already) in the backyard. I think Cinnamon got out the door herself.

The dog approached me. As soon as I knelt down and took my mask off, Patrick was coming around the corner of the house and took the picture.

Not doing this to spoil any feel good moments here. As far as I am concerned, a dog that got out of a burning house, kissing the fireman who is fighting the fire, is STILL touching and lovely and I don't know why the story needs to be changed at all. I guess that is why changing the truth of things bugs me... like the truth isn't good enough? Sure it is!

04/13/06 - I-129F mailed

04/18/06 - NOA1

08/30/06 - NOA2

09/26/06 - received at NVC

20/11/06 - visa in my pocket!

14/01/07 - POE

13/04/07 - marriage

27/04/07 docs sent in for AOS, EAD, AP

26/06/07 - biometrics appointment

02/17/07 - AP and EAD arrive

03/03/08 - Infopass - where the heck is my AOS interview?? No one knows!

I don't hate you. I simply copied and pasted the story as I found it. Thanks for setting it all straight tho.

I guess it doesn't spoil it for me. The dog thinks the fireman did something special, even if all he did was open a door. What makes the photo tearjerking is her gratitude for his action, no matter what it was (or wasn't).

Thank goodness for websites that don't let us get away with a true feel good story.

As I already posted, I think the "real" version is just as sweet.

I didn't post it to piss you off, I posted it because I am not sure why people (not you) feel an already good story needs further embellishment. I also find it interesting how stories are like a game of broken telephone... they change with each telling. That is why I find Scopes and interesting site, not because I am a killjoy.
