There is no such thing as Canadian Bacon. THe only thing that might be considered Canadian Bacon in Canada is called Back Bacon or Peameal Bacon. (Peameal Bacon is Back Bacon with Corn meal on the outside presumeably to absorb some of the bacon fat while cookin it).

In any case that packaged round stuff should be called Mini Ham Rounds or something. It is not Canadian Bacon. It is closer to poor quality ham.

I always thought back bacon was those little round ham-like things. That is what they are in my grocery store.. and they are also called Canadian bacon.

When I came here, my husband ordered a pizza with Canadian Bacon. I asked him what the hell Canadian Bacon was. When I saw it, I told him it looked more like some kind of ham to me. I don't like it at all.

REAL Canadian bacon is not smoked. The stuff they make in the US as "Canadian style bacon is not what we call bacon in Canada.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Real Canadian bacon - peameal bacon - is wonderful! And is definitely not the stuff that passes as 'Canadian bacon" in the grocery stores here. Oh, I miss beameal bacon!

LOL, this thread made me laugh. In the US, Canadians don't like "Canadian bacon", but people from Ireland and the UK seem to love it because it's the only bacon that's similar to their bacon back home. Does nobody like American bacon? LOL...personally, I can't stand the smell of American bacon (I'm a vegetarian though, so I don't think I count)...the "Canadian bacon" doesn't smell as strong. :P

American bacon is pretty disgusting - it's all fat and salt and nitrates! I don't mind the 'canadian bacon' but I've never looked on it as being a 'bacon' product at all - in Australia that's call a 'hamsteak' :P

Not disappointing me, I could really care less. I've had horrible food even living for 42 years in Canada. You'll never find perfect food in any country.

BTW I was one of those "Smarties" lovers (the ones "almost" like M & M's). Well after bringing some back from Canada last year after not having had them for 3 years, I'm now a devoted M & M's lover instead. No comparison in my opinion - give me those M & M's. :D

Did anyone see the movie "Canadian Bacon" with John Candy and Alan Alda???

We own it. Funny movie.

Although it is not bacon as I know it, it is more like ham I do like it better because it has way less fat. Throw it on an english muffin with a scambled egg and cheese and you got yourself an egg mcmuffin!

Now about them smarties  I told my husband I miss smarties, I grew up with them and they were my favorite treat. He brought me a bag of them little chaulk candies that come in a roll.. at home we called those things rockets. Of course we had to google it all so we could find out which smarties were made first.. so that one of us could "win" the smartie battle. I think I won that one, but I dont remember for sure. When you have nothing else to argue about these things come in handy.
