1st Lady M. Obama is BEAUTIFUL, I think!

****This is my RESPONSE to a fellow vjer who started an offensive thread about M. Obama.****

I know that this is a forum, and we have a right to say whatever we want. But I don't get your humor here. In fact, your comments are offensive. Personally, I find our new First Lady Michelle Obama to be quite beautiful, and so are their daughters--Malia and Sasha. Not only this, but she is brilliant, articulate, graceful, and strong. Most important, our new president--President Barack Obama seems to be genuinely in love with his wife who happens to be a BEAUTIFUL, real-looking, healthy-looking, fit-looking African American, educated woman who is unfraid to speak her mind. Also, she is quite fashionable. Do you read the mags & newspapers? And she is considered an outstanding mom, perhaps her most endearing quality and accomplishment.

Today is a day of inspiration for our nation, and people everywhere throughout the world are looking to President Obama to bring a sense of intelligence and stability and wisdom to the Office of the Presidency here in the US. Remember our standing in the world has been hurt so badly by the poor decisions of our last president. Let's not overlook the obvious fact that our country is changing for the better into a place where racism, prejudice, and cowardice have lost their reserved seat of permanence, thankfully. This is a new era of promise, intellectualism, integrity, and hard work. As Americans, we can be proud of how we voted--many fo us. We can be proud, whether we are Democrats or Republicans, of the fact that an African American man can aspire to, work hard campaigning for, and be voted into the highest office in the land.

My greatgrandparents, grandparents, and father did not live to see this day, but my mom did, and she was so moved---just like milllions and millions of us are---by the fact that "opportunity for all" and "freedom for all" are alive and possible, indeed.

Finally, to all women in the world, I think Michelle Obama represents beauty in its purest, most nonsuperficial form. Who needs to weigh 100lbs to look attractive? Beauty is not defined by the society at-large as "thin, white-skinned, and blonde," nor is it defined by one's level of wealth or materialism. But then again, you have your opinions, and I have mine, so perhaps your idea of beauty is so strictly defined that anything else is "manish" or "chunky" to you. I bet there are many men on vj who would beg to differ with you and your standards of female beauty, and I hope they write their thought down for you to read.

We will not erase your deep-seeded beliefs, nor will we try. But surely, you motivated me to state mine. Congratulations, America. This is our land of the freedom and liberty for all. I agree with you. I think she is a beautiful woman, regardless of what she looks like. I feel like she is a woman that we can all look up to. What I appreciate most about her is that she is obviously intelligent and accomplished, but she is able to balance that with being a good mom and wife. I feel like a lot of the last first ladies have been either one or the other and have had problems toeing that line.

I really don't care one way or another. I don't get this presidential voyeurism stuff and I don't find there to be any relevance in how good or bad of a mother she is as regards whether Obama is going to do a good job. What I will not do however, is make immature jokes about her 'looks' in a pathetic attempt at political satire. It's not.

Thanks. Perhaps I was just naive, reading only positive stuff since joining. This was my 1st time diving into "off topic" and it caught me by surprise. Needless to say, I've been on cloud 55 since election day. Thnaks again. I'm not seething anymore.
