First off, I hope there are no stupid questions

After finding this website I decided to fill out the forms myself and not waste money on those darn lawyers (no offense). This website is a godsend. Thanks in advance for all your inputs.

1. I-129F, question 8b and 9 A# (I'm assuming this is alien regist #). If I'm US citizen and my fiancee doesn't live in US, I assume neither of us have this # and the # is for green card holders. Correct?

2. I-129F, question 10. I'm looking at my citizenship certificate and I see 2 numbers starting with A xxxx. One is the Application No. and another one is on the very top of the page in red letters. Which is the certificate # and how do I know the place it was issued? Certificate only states the address I was living in during the time the certificate was issued, which happened to be in Honolulu, Hawaii.

3. G325A, question File Number A _____ (next to Citizenship). What file number is this referring to? Citizenship cert #? Also am I correct in assuming I filled out ALL questions on ALL 4 pages?

4. Letter of intent. Should my fiancee write this in her native language and have it translated or just use the sample found in this website? (She can understand the letter from this website) Also is the sample found in I-129F guide section sufficient or use our own words and elaborate?

5. Is there any negative side effects or complications of submitting paperwork for K-1 visa while my fiancee is visiting me on VWP as long as she returns by due date?

I'm sure I may have more questions as this process continues, but this is all I have so far since the guide section was very thorough. Thanks again for your help.

My best advice to you is read the guides, and if some of this is to hard, maybe you should seek a lawyer, some do pro-bono work.

I would add that if the foreign fiance(e) doesn't write well in English, it's perfectly acceptable for them to sign a letter typed or already translated by somebody else. No need to provide the letter in two languages.

I used the example forms link at the top of the page as a guide for filling out the forms. It seemed to work, we blew right through the entire process with a minor problem (caused by me in using an expired form)

1. Correct. Both 8B and 9 A# were left blank on my I-129F.

2. I am not experienced regarding the citizenship certificate so all I have is an educated guess, but I would assume that since it was issued to you while you were living in Hawaii, you would say that it was issued in Honolulu, Hawaii. I would guess that your certificate number was the red number (at the top right of your certificate?), but don't take my word for it.

3. Leave the 'file number' box blank. I BELIEVE that box is for administrative use only when they file the paperwork in their offices. As long as your SSN is in the box below, you should be good to go. Yes, you are correct in assuming that you fill out ALL questions on ALL FOUR pages.

4. The letter of intent is just a letter stating that you both plan to be married within 90 days of your fiancee's arrival into the US. There is no need for it to be written in any language other than English as long as she understands what it says when she signs it. No elaboration is needed, they just want signatures to prove you understand that the K-1 is only valid for 90 days and serves for the specific purpose of allowing a couple to be married in the US within that time period. Mine read:

"

[my address]

United States Department of Homeland Security

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

[uSCIS service center & address]

United States Department of State

United States Consulate, [fiance's country]

Embassy of the United States of America

[address of embassy]

[date]

To whom it may concern:

I, [my name], do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry [fiance's name], and intend to do so within 90 days of his arrival into the US using the K-1 visa.

Sincerely,

[signature]

[my name]

"

5. I am not currently aware of any problems that would arise because she was visiting with you when you filed the K-1 petition.

Best of luck and don't worry if you happen to get a few sour answers on here once in a while. Some of the people on here are far enough along in their process where they don't have the patience for questions that seem to have obvious answers now that they've already finished that part of their process. You learn a lot as the process goes on, but when you're just starting out, it's hard to even know where to look for the answers you need so an extra boost of support and reassurance from other people is helpful. Just let us know if you're having trouble with anything else and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction. Good luck!

Okay so I guessed I missed this one also! What is the letter of intent? Is that something I write or my alien spouse writes? Im so confused!

I just posted an example of the letter of intent above this post. Both my alien spouse and I typed the same letter of intent (just inserting names where appropriate) and signed our own individual copies to send to USCIS. However, you can also just write one together and both of you sign it.

(I've also read where other posts say that only the petitioner needs to send in a signed letter of intent, but I would suggest that both of your signatures be on indivual or a joint letter of intent as that is what worked for my fiance and I. We received our NOA2 5 months after we originally filed with no RFEs.)

Hope that's helpful.

Thank you all for your responses, especially to Elghazi2008 for your completeness in answering my questions. I guess I'll try to google or call USCIS (although they weren't particularly helpful last time) regarding correct Citizenship #. Thanks Bonkers for sharing your personal experience.

Much appreciated.

hi

The A# on your certificate of Naturalization is your INS Registration number; that is the same number that was on your Green Card. the certificate # is in Red is starts with No

hope this helps

Thanks Marie & Steve for the response.

I took another look at my certificate of citizenship, which had 2 numbers both starting with A___. One was in red starting with A followed by 6 digits on top of the certificate (which I assume is the certificate number). Another number was in black starting with A followed by 8 digits and labelled "Application No." So I decided to take a look at my mother's certificate of naturalization and on hers she had red number on top like described by Marie and also "Alien Registration No." shown on her naturalization cert and a "petition no." Interestingly, her alien regist number and my application no only differed by last digit. Since I became a USC through my mom who was naturalized, I was never given an alien number, but an application no. instead (I think).

So is an application no. same thing as an alien number and do I need to use it in my I-129F and G-325A? I'm going to try to find out from USCIS. I'll post my findings, if any, since this info may be useful to someone someday.
