So we're still thinking of moving to Morocco soon, but obviously income is something that has to be considered. So we're working on some business ideas. One idea that I ABSOLUTELY love and would have a blast with is a wedding planner. I've done it here in the states, (as well as planning other very large (30,000+ people events) and feel like we have enough connections plus highly desireable location (Marrakech) to really get a great feel for doing this. What do you think, is there demand? I feel like I and Hubby know Morocco well enough to do something from traditional Moroccan all the way to uber glam Moroccan inspired Western wedding.....

I've never been to a Moroccan wedding either

If Walt Disney World didn't charge a ginormous amount to get married in Morocco at Epcot, I'd do it there!!

But, seriously, I've googled stuff and I've found great things, but just don't know how to put everything into place. The big thing I've found now are invitations, but the best ones I've found (online) are all sold in India! If you google Muslim wedding invitations, there's some gorgeous stuff out there. I kinda would like to make my own tho.

But back to the original question - I think you could start off as an event planner...why limit it to just weddings? And a city like Marrakech, heck you can even cater to the many expats who live there - or maybe even destination weddings for the many Brits who make Marrakech their weekend holiday....oooooh, I bet my hunny would have connections too (he's in Marrakech) he's a chef so he knows many people in the industry...but, he'll be here beginning in March :P

star,

my cuz just married a guy from India (over in india) and coming this june they will have their american/indian wedding here. Their doing it at Promentory Point on Lake Michigan. I know it wasnt expensive at all and has allowed them many many options to incorporate both traditions into the wedding. You should take a look at it. It would make for a beautiful summer wedding!!

Yea I think it could definetely go for any event really. I think the group I'm looking to cater to is non-Moroccans, people who want that Moroccan feel. Real Moroccans pretty much have it covered LOL. However it is a big trend to have a more "western" wedding so there might be a market! Hmmm I may really have to explore this...

Don't forget about Essaouira too!! Being so close to Marrakech and being on the beach, I bet there's a market for that too :star:

Being a wedding planner sounds like an awesome idea. Especially in Morocco for the tourist that come. I know that if I were a tourist and wanted a destination planned wedding Morocco would definatly a place i'd consider in a heartbeat. I've never been to an arabic or moroccan wedding before or even seen one on tv. Saw many pics. I kind of sometimes wish we married in Morocco instead of here. But I couldn't ask for more of a perfect day that we had last year!

07/21/11 filed AOS off tourist visa

07/28/11 USCIS cashed check

07/30/11 Recieved NOA1 and Biometrics letter

08/24/2011 Biometrics

08/25/2011 RFE sent to us for some info we've already sent in

08/30/2011 sent in the rest of info USCIS asked for

09/13/2011 went to congressman's office to sign papers for expedite of work permit, due to financial hardship

09/15/2011 Work permit expedite approved!! He can finally find a job!

09/24/2011 work permit arrives

09/26/2011 Apply for social security number!

09/30/2011 Letter is sent for interview

11/07/2011 INTERVIEW!!!

Its 2012 and still no approval! Still waiting

01/27/2012 Letter sent stating that file was sent on for more review :(

I wish you look & success in this endeavor, didnt realize you were contemplating such a huge move & sounds like you have some already well thought out plans (location & connections - those are key to any business venture).

One of my coworkers daughter married a man from from Morocco & he was an event planner for parades, weddings etc ... did very well for himself as far a making a decent living. Sadly, when he finally had his visa approved & came here last year, he wasnt able to have that kind of success in the same field but is trying other avenues.

At any rate, follow your dream & all the best :star:

Sounds like you might find some good connections right here in the thread! I'd research what it takes to be a wedding planner there, i.e. if you need a license (who knows, right?), etc. Contact someone who does it and ask what a day in the life is like. There's probably tons of things to think about in Morocco that we don't even give a second thought to here. Sure sounds like a good plan though and fun too!
