Haven't you been paying attention? We don't torture.

Have you read the article? It doesn't like we're the ones torturing. It's our serfs, the Iraqis.

Yeah, but we've liberated the Iraqis and given them the gift of Freedom, Democracy, and unicorns. So if WE don't torture (and our President says we don't torture so we must believe him) then it's simply impossible that the Iraqis torture. The article must be wrong. Stoopid librul medias.

Her horn can pierce the sky!

If I have to watch them burn one more American flag...

Burning the American flag is the only proper way to dispose of it, but I guess it depends on your attitude while doing it.

Guess Bush thought after he invaded Iraq, the Iraqi's would be waving American flags when our troops came into town, much like when they did in France during WW II. But a little propaganda, those flags were passed out before the cameras were turned on, the Germans were not particularly fond of the French owning those flags.

Then maybe he thought they would be having parades for him on his return, well they are, but not exactly the kind he was expecting. They are of a different culture, like to dress their women in black and stone them to death if naughty, not particularly fond of the way our women dress, so can get quite nasty.

Can only wonder how we would treat them if they came here in force, probably quite a bit worse than they are treating us. But paying them not to shoot at us seems to be working, how many of us would take a couple of bucks not to shoot at them if they came here? That buck seems to carry a lot more weight than religious beliefs. Really good example of that is Dubai.

And can you imagine the Iraqi's coming up with a constitution where religion is separated from the state? They can't even agree on their religion! It's one big mess.

From what u understand this man was affiliated somehow with the baathists, I'd guess that has more to do with his treatment than the shoe throwing. Life is still cheap in Iraq after all.

Thought that torture was a means to gain either false information or a false confession from an individual, hell, even I would admit to being a supporter of GWB if tortured severely and long enough.

But this guy already gave his reasons for throwing his shoes, what information would they gain by torturing him? To torture him would be just downright mean and going back to the days where the English and French were infamous for their severe means or extending the life of a person to even torture him more, especially if that person threatened the life of the king. Not even sure if that covered tossing shoes, at least a stick or a spear.

Hope this country is not going back to that style of living, but beginning to sound that way.

Well that's certainly true in countries like Iraq, and obvious for this crime there would be no need for torture as the guy was essentially caught red-handed. What may have happened is that the guy was beaten up for sectarian reasons.

That's if the "torture" story is true of course, it may not be. Its Iraq though - it wouldn't be a surprise...
