Ok, so if things don't work out with one of us getting work, we'll just divorce and become a priest and a nun.

Oh, does that require a religion? :jest:

You could always just make up one and register it non-profit. Or you could join the Church of the Subgenius. Follow the teachings of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs into the sunset.

Just cuz, most religions allow clergy to marry or be married. Roman Catholics are the exception rather than the rule.

I work in the medical devices manufacturing industry. All the benefits of the regular health care industry without personally being balls deep in gore and human misery.

If my industry tanks, I'll consider becoming an RN.

Why an RN?

It just seems like one of the few jobs that are always in high demand, they are a paid a decent salary, and I could work almost anywhere.

Yeah I got friends who are RN here and they are so well off I must say... Their salaries range between $60k to $80k a year. I can't do this so scared with blood and I can't stand hospital, but I think most of the hospitals here are good and clean.

I'm not so crazy about bodily fluids either, but I'm thinking I could manage if it means my family doesn't starve. I don't know how bad this economic is going to get before things get better. Just trying to think a few steps ahead.

I believe that is what "flames9" is doing...almost finished school as an RN.

Find him playing in the Canada forums.

Maybe you can PM him for info...

It just seems like one of the few jobs that are always in high demand, they are a paid a decent salary, and I could work almost anywhere.

Three excellent reasons to pursue a career in healthcare, and why I'm giving serious consideration to it myself. I was looking at radiology though, as opposed to becoming a general RN.

Yeah radiology is a high paying job too and not that hard to do I guess... I think I'll consider this too..

Something to think about: if something has a low bar of entry, is easy and high paying, then it's just a matter of time before supply catches up to and exceeds demand.

Normally, I'd agree with you, but the anti-social hours associated with working in nursing and its affiliates, if nothing else, should keep demand reasonably high. At least that's how I see it.

Sure, with hours like that I'd not consider it 'easy' except for vampires and late night vjers :innocent:

I read that the demand is partially because of a lack of nursing teaching staff. There has to be limits on who is allowed into the programs simply because there is not enough staff to teach the students. There is not really a lack of people who want to do it, per se.

At any rate though, like any field, nursing is only as good as the people who can pay.

That's the same reason we have such an artificially low number of MDs too. The AMA suppresses supply on purpose.

12 months ago when John and I began planning, my working in the finance industry was an asset, now it might be easier to find a job as a waitress.

Slumps in the finance industry are always temporary. I remember as a kid in the 80s hearing jokes about unemployed loser MBAs. Well those unemployed losers sure showed us! They ruled the world in the last few years.
