hi everyone.. just started the visa process...a couple questions on the i-129f- when it asks for a social security number and then has question 8b beside it asking for A#.. what are they talking about? and why does it ask for my fiances us social security number? is that about the dumbest question in the world? why would we be going through all this bs if our fiances already had us social security numbers? i read where your not supposed to leave any blanks.. so does that mean you have to put N/A in each and every box.. like all 12 of them asking for info on fiances children? and what do we put for line 18 asking for how we met? hardly seems like enough room for such a long question.. can anyone help me out on this?

and please.. no cocky people who think they know it all by asking` did you not read some particular website? why would you ask such a question? ´´ you know who you are...

You have to put n/a or none in ALL places where it applies. Don't leave anything blank.

A# would refer to your "alien fiance" if they have never been here before or had a visa, they won't have one so put n/a. That is what I did.

As for how you met-it seems most people put a brief response-I put that "we met a wedding in Dublin, Ireland Aug 2003" then I attatched a supplemental page.

Well, first it is not stupid that they ask for a Social Securtity number. My fiance studied in the us and also worked for a year. Because of this he was issued a ss#. Once you receive a number, you have it for life even if you do not live in the us. Second, if they do not have these numbers just right none.

1. A# is the Alien Registration number. Your fiance has one is he has had dealings with USCIS.

2. A social security number is not proof of immigration status. Social security numbers are given out to anyone who works legally in the US. It's not a dumb question because your fiance might have a social security number if he has worked legally in the US before.

3. If you don't have a number then put "NONE"

4. If the same question is repeated multiple times, then writing "NONE" or "N/A" as answer to the first question is sufficient.

5. If an answer won't fit on the provided space on the form you write "see attachment". Then attach an attachment with the question number referenced and your answer below.

Lastly, if you ask questions on a public forum, be prepare for all sort of answers, rude or not. If you want courteous answers to your questions, there are professional lawyers who will happily take your money and give you answers.

Paul,

Believe it or not, some alien fiance(e)s have been in the USA and have SS numbers as a consequence of their activities here. So it is not a dumb question and it is an applicable question.

Such people are sure to have an A# as well, another very applicable question.

Don't know what you can put down for Q18 since you haven't posted how you and your fiancee met - tell us how you met, and we'll tell you back. But if you can write it in a post, you can write it directly on the form or on an attached page if it overflows the form.

interesting that in the guide, it shows 'NONE' in only the first box for certain questions (like 'list all children'), but it's been advised to put 'NONE' or "N/A' in every empty box.

I suspect that some people sometimes misunderstand advice (both the advice they receive and the advice they give).

The box for list all children can be counted as one question with lots of spaces for those it applies to, so one NONE is sufficient. If you had one child you would put their name in the first box and leave the rest blank, you wouldn't put NONE in the 2nd box, 3rd box, etc. I would say its common sense but that seems to be lost on some people......

(If you're being sarcastic then maybe this can just clear it up for other people, because you know someone else will ask)

James_and_Miranda,

Agreed. But I would go one extra step for the situation where there is one (or more) children to be shown - on the first line after the last child I would put 'no other children' to make it clear that this was the complete list.
