I just love how amateurs talk about medication being unnecessary. Seriously, some people need to stfu.

Out of this thread now.

also, i do not believe the findings..personality disorders are much rarer than depression..bi-polar etc..maybe, 1 in 5 have a mental health issue is more correct

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

That wouldn't surprise me...

Presumably "Personality Disorder" would cover things like schizophrenia?

HAL 9000 is not a licensed therapist... but sometimes the amazement at the possible amount of people with attitude problems in many areas (based on observation) is something astounding. Would this be part of personality disorders or mental issues in the larger scope of things?

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Frankly, I think it's more than 1. I don't know anyone I'd consider normal.

How do you calculate normal? Normal is surely the mean of the possible available variations so if no one is 'normal' your definition of normal is wrong, and possibly abnormal :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Four of my five personalities concurs with this report.

I know exactly what you mean.

Len, I hope you do not take anything I say as if I could cure anyone with what would be considered a serious health problem, mental, physical or any thing else. I would never minimize or invalidate something you are going through...

What I was trying to point out is that many normal ways of being were labeled disorders late in the century.

I'm pertaining to people with things like wanting to hermit (hey I do it all the time), people who need more sunshine (believe me, I know), people who feel overwhelmed with a simply list of things to do (again, I wrote the book), and so on...and also children with a rambunctious personality and or curiosity, well, I consider that something to be celebrated, not medicated.

Different day, different personality comes out.

It depends on what clothes I choose to wear that day.

Ha!

Was some sort of rodent biting you in the nuts to make the 5th personality not agree? (Think Trident gum commercials).

Okay, couple of things that crack me up:

1) People confuse stuff all the time. No, "multiple personality disorder" is not a PD. Also, no, you don't want to be diagnosed with OC PD which is nothing like OCD. OC PD is that really controlling dude that abuses his wife.

2) PD's don't really respond to medication. In fact, PDs are notoriously really hard to treat. Nobody wants to be stuck with a PD patient. Not even the drug companies. Trust me.

3) The current fad is that PDs are a continuum. Everyone has a bit of PD, but that bit extends from fairly normal to absolutely insane. Most people are in the middle.

4) Yeah, VJ sucks with psych issues. I'll be happy to give links if anyone wants them. :)

In your opinion, do you think that multiple personality disorder is a misnomer or do folks merely confuse it with personality traits gone sour? I try to dissociate both by the obvious clinical benchmarks of MPD and bad traits (people with serious attitude issues). The latter I think I see a lot of online in all sorts of flavors.

Completely agree with your PD assessment since to me- thinking about it from a psychopharmacological side... there are likely little to no receptor or NT synthesis/release/binding problems to begin with that we know of in cases of PD. But if you say PD enough times I start thinking of Parkinsons where yes, there are several NT and receptor issues at hand.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.
