Just tell him that the flight attendants and airport personnel are there to help. If he gets a mean one, he can always go to the next one. He's coming here legally so there's nothing for him to worry about.

Good luck with everything. ;)

Acrow, it's going to be okay and it's not complicated. If he doesn't know or understand something tell him to ask. If he needs help filling out the forms, tell him to ask someone to help him. Where is he flying to?

Acrow, have him borrow a cell phone to call you when he gets through immigration - Or get a calling card and give him the number so that he can call you - I am sure he is nervous but he'll be fine - Tell him that there are always people on a flight who have never flown - He'll be fine!!

He will be fine. He's not the first nor the last immigrant to step off a plane. Personally, I knew Andre would have some issues, which is why I planned on flying down and flying back with him.

All this advice is good. People will help him along the way.

I wish you guys the very best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. Luckily he is not too proud to ask for help if he is lost or confused...

He is flying into JFK, and then from JFK to Portland, Oregon. He has a long layover so I am sure he will be fine. I can just hear how nervous he is in his voice...

Hi Acrow,

Congratulations on the Visa! Anyway, your SO will be fine. Like previously stated, he is coming here legally and has nothing to worry about. Tell him to ask the flight attendants when he needs help and to relax and enjoy the flight. Is he afraid of the process or the flight, or both. I hate flying so I always take a sleeping pill prior to flight. Best Wishes

this is wonderful news. make sure you are calm, so he will remain calm.

1. Start with the NYCTourist website, so you can find a map of the airport in case you need to direct him to a pay phone or etc. http://www.nyctourist.com/travel_jfk.htm

2. Check his plane ticket or itinerary before he lands at JFK and changing planes to check which terminal you need to go to next. or maybe you can call the airport.

3. Use the AirTrain JFK service that connects all 8 JFK terminals or just walk.

4. The pay phones are near the restrooms if he needs to call you

Good  luck - he will be fine (again)

Ryon, have you been to JFK? I wouldn't walk between terminals - Then again, it might remind him of home and trying to dodge the traffic

A long layover is really good news. Now I know he will be just fine. He will have lots of time to figure it all out.

I remember meeting a young Jamaican male on my flight from MBJ to Atlanta. He was so scared sitting next to me. I struck up conversation with him, and he told me that he was coming to live with his fiancee. Well, he stuck to me like glue all through the airport. When, we came up the escalator to go to baggage claim, she was there waiting just as nervous. I saw his eyes light up when he noticed her, and I told him that he was in safe hands now and welcome to the States.

She thanked me for helping him, then gave me a once over to make sure I didn't have any other intentions. LOL That was about three years ago. LOL at the memory.
