What does the biometrics fee cover? Is it just finger prints? I just filed AOS and was a little mystified why I have to be fingerprinted again - they fingerprinted me 3 years ago (for free might I add) when I entered the country. I can understand the fee if it covers someting else but otherwise I really don't understand why they don't have it on file. Does anyone know?

AOS:

11/07/2008: Filled AOS @ Chicago Lock box

11/11/2008: Received @ Lockbox

11/18/2008: NOA for I-130, I-485, I-765

12/08/2008: Biomtrics appointment

I think it's because, those biometrics are much more elaborate than the one you have in an airport for example. Now, they will take the fingerprints of each of your fingers of both hands, and the whole hands. It's quite a work to do. They will also take a picture of you.

Yep the airport and consulate BIO was thumb prints only, AOS requires a 10 finger print set, a picture, and a signature which they will digitally print on the green-card.

Also these records are not kept for a long time, so when you do file to remove conditions later from the 2 year green-card you will have to do biometrics again, as well if you file to naturalize to become a US citizen.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

They just might have it on file... It is also used for identification purposes as well... To verify that you still are the individual you say you are who qualifies for the "benefit. To be certain the person who originally qualified for the benefit is still alive and did not go "home" and someone else is pretending to be you.

FWIW, it will not be the last time you will pay and have to do it again...

YMMV
