We have our interview tomorrow as well...

I have a question for those who have already had their interview...

You know how you are supposed to bring the original copy of your birth certificate, divorce and marriage papers and all that? Did they ask for those at your interview????? I was going thru the invitation letter last week and realized I need the original of my divorce certificate, but I don't have it, it is still in Belgium, I had my parents scan and send it to me. I asked them to sent it to me last week but I guess I didn't get it on time. So Im just hoping they wont ask for it, or will they guaranteed??

I was asked for my original birth and marriage certificate. I've never been married before, so I don't know whether they'll ask the same for a divorce certificate.

Good luck!

Hey All,

Here's our interview story:

Arrived about 30 minutes early. Went through security and everything was fine. We both dressed up for our interview. Our officer was a young very friendly asian man. We could tell right away when he called us in that he was a pretty friendly guy. When we got in he asked us if we both agree to tell the truth, and we said yes, of course. He then wanted both of our state ID's, and my passport. Then it turns out he went to the same school as my husband so they chatted about that. Then he just told us that'd he'd go through the paperwork we had already sent in. He asked who had done our paperwork, and I said that I did. He said I had done a really good job on it. Better than lots of the attorney's work that he has seen. (Woo Hoo!) He asked some basic questions, my new last name, first name, middle names, address. Confirmed that I was born in Canada. Maybe something else that I can't remember. Then he asked if we lived on our own, so we said we live with our inlaws, so he then said, I guess that means you don't have any utility bills or anything like that in your name, and we agreed. Then he asked us a little about our relationship. How we met, when it was, when we became official. He then asked about all of the stuff that we had brought so I brought that out, just the evidence part. Pictures of us, our recent trip, and random things since we were married. Religious ceremony pictures and legal ceremony pictures. He then asked if that was all, then I remembered I had brought our bank statements and cell phone bills/statements. He wanted to keep them but I said those were the only copies we had, he was going to make a copy, but then I guess he just didn't feel like it, so he just wrote down the information on his notes. He then went back to the paperwork and asked me the series of questions from the I-485 application. (ie. terrorist, illegal drugs, polygamy, etc.) Then he said everything looked good, and he wanted to be the first to congratulate me on being approved for our application and that he was going to recommend approval. He asked us if we had any plans to visit out of country any time soon, my husband right away said no, but I said yes, because there are potential plans. Then he said he could give me the stamp in my passport so I got that, and it is valid for a month because he was sure I would receive my GC within the next 2 weeks. He asked if we had any more questions, we said no, he explained the conditional GC, and then we were done!

Very easy! I was so nervous before hand, but once I was in the room, it wasn't bad at all. :)

Good Luck to everyone else! :) I'm sure you'll do great!

Btw, he didn't ask for ANYTHING else then what I mentioned. Not our financial info, marriage cert, medical info, etc. etc.

We had our interview this morning....

It wasn't easy...

We arrived on time for our interview. We had brought our 2 kids with us. I handed them our letter and we took a seat.

About 10 minutes later a tall lady called our names and asked us to follow her. Still standing we had to do the oath and then we took a seat.

She seemed like a friendly lady. She asked for our ID's and my passport and said she was going to start with my husband. She asked him his name, address, DOB, POB, phone number, when we got married and to my surprise he was a day off, I thought he was joking, because he knew very well when we got married. But she didn't seem to mind. She asked us if we had 2 weddings (an official one and religious one), so we said yes and gave her the two dates. All of a sudden she started to make a problem about that, saying that we did fraud because those two weddings were on a different date and we didn't do a ceremony on the date of the legal marriage. We didn't get it. She didn't make any sense. Since when does our religious wedding matter, it was something personal, how can that affect our legal marriage? So she went to talk to her supervisor and he must have agreed with us, because she said he told her to just ignore it. What a relief!

She then asked for our birth certificates, so I gave her the originals and copies.

She asked me how many times I came to the US, I told her about 5 times, she then asked if they asked me, if I was married at the port of entry, and I told her "no, they didn't ask me". She asked me, what did you tell them at the port of entry when you visited the last time, I said I told her I came to visit my friend. She said she was just asking to see what they do and ask at the port of entry. She asked me what my intention was my last visit, if I intended to stay. I said "no, i was going to go back home and file the K1 but I was pregnant so we decided to stay." She nodded her head with a smile and said 'o yea of course', with an understanding tone and look.

She then asked if we brought other documents like bills, so I said yes and gave us our bills. She went to take copies of those.

She then asked me the same questions she had asked my husband, but for me. (I thought it would be the opposite way, but no), I answered the questions. She asked for my annulment/divorce decree and I didn't have the original with me, so I gave her a copy, but she said it wasn't really the right document she needed, the one I brought with me was more like a letter, the other one I have is a copy of the civil registry but it doesn't mention the annulment but she says that's what she needs or a divorce decree (which I don't think exists). So she gave me an RFE for that with instructions to where I can obtain that document and where I have to send it to.

She then, gave me the information about the removal of conditions and explained that in 2 years I need to send in a form with the same documentation I just provided and she said "that won't be a problem since you already have all those docs".

I asked her, what happens after I bring in the divorce decree? She said "they will take a decision and send the green card in the mail within the so many days". She also said, "everything looks good, I just need you to bring in that document just to make sure that everything is correct."

She gave me my EAD card and I94 back, and said, "I will give these back to you, in case you need to proof your status or look for work in the mean time."

We then thanked each other and we left the building.

That was our interview... what do you guys think?????? She didn't ask to see our photos or asked any questions about our relationship, but I assumed that was since we had our children so that was enough proof? I also forgot to show her our lease, and she didn't ask either. I'm a little sad that I didn't get an approval yet. But I have a feeling that we will get approved after we bring in that document. What do you think? I mean she did give us the info about the removal of conditions and she was friendly.

And oh yea she asked the questions from the form and my husband started laughing with the terrorist question and then she started laughing and said "Yea I have to ask those questions, to protect myself", but she was laughing. She asked me if I ever used gov assistance and I said, yes, I receive medical assistance and they receive foodstamps, I don't qualify for that." She said "oh ok, for the kids". And I said "yes". And that was it.
