Anyone know what Shreveport, La is like? My husband got orders there and we're moving in March. The closest I've been to the south is ATL, Ga but i have no idea what its like down there ... I'm in Tucson now and I wish I could stay here always!!!!

I used to live in Shreveport about twenty years ago. I liked it, however, not sure what it is like now. I drive through it when I go to my parents house and it has grown. Good Luck!!!

Do a Google search for "Shreveport" and see what you find; the convention & visitors' bureau (or similar) should have some relocation information to send you. Summer weather will be FAR more humid than Arizona. Small airport; nonstop flights on Continental to Houston and probably to a couple of other hubs. City is thankfully close to the Texas border, meaning you can drive to Jefferson and other scenic towns for atmosphere.

Several casinos in SHV; avoid them if gambling is or could become a problem. Stay away from all motels/hotels in the Monkhouse Road area. In fact, I don't believe that there are any good hotels anywhere in town. If your husband got "orders," is he military and stationed at Bossier City? If so, the personnel there should be able to provide relocation information.

This should give you a pretty good start. Have fun.

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

On the basis of my 3 visits, I was trying to avoid saying the same thing...

I've been THROUGH Shreveport once (moving back from Dallas to Atlanta--in the "stuff moving" stage, I spent one night at a hotel there), as it connects to Atlanta and Dallas via I-20.

I live a few hours from Shreveport......my husband used to live there and he really likes it....he's even talked about wanting to move back there. I've been there a few times and enjoyed myself....there is a nice boardwalk by the river. There are loads of festivals throughout the year too which are usually pretty good.

Thanks for the info :) I'm very nervous about moving there - yes, my husband is in the military and unfortunatly his orders are for 4 years :( but there's nothing we can do. My husband never wanted to live in the south and was just as upset as i was when we found out we were going to Shreveport. Some people seem to say they love it, others hate it. Its the same here in Tucson ... some people like me love it and others hate and cant wait to leave. I guess I'll just have to see what its like for myself :)
