Cops arrest cleric conducting 'marriage' between 7-year old boy and 5-year old girl

The Muslim wedding of a seven-year-old boy and a five-year-old girl has been raided by police.

Cops arrested the Muslim cleric conducting the sick ceremony and the children’s parents in Pakistan’s largest city.

The cleric had not yet begun the ceremony of Mohammad Waseem, seven, and his bride Nishain Karachi, five – which was attended by 100 guests.

Pakistan law forbids marriage below the age of 18 – but some Muslim scholars say it is permissible if the bride and groom have reached puberty.

TV footage showed both children in traditional wedding clothes in the laps of policemen after the raid – the girl with tears running down her cheeks.

The parents said the wedding had been arranged to end an eight-year feud between the two families, according to a report on Express News TV.

Mr Mazhar said he had heard about similar cases in rural areas but “it is shocking to have this right in the centre of the city.”

The parents are due to appear in court tomorrow.

A Pakistan Human Rights Commission official Hina Gillani said the maximum possible punishment for the parents was one month in jail and fine of just over $10 (£6).

What's REALLY despicable is passing judgment on another culture, simply because it holds values different from your own.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I agree with that to a point.

In human history there are times when this is considered normal. However, when the kids grew up they changed their ways because the knew they didn't like it. The ones that continued are the ones who don't like to change because they want to hold on to their strong beliefs. That is how our culture came to ban this behavior.

In many parts of the world that carry this ritual have many suicides, etc..etc..Real problems. In many remote regions of Cambodia, this also is carried out. Very high suicide rates.

Well clearly their own culture isnt ok with it since marriage isn't allowed until 18 by law.

So, marriage leads to suicide. Makes sense to me.

Yeah - and everyone in the same nation all share the same culture. Check.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."
