If you're on a VWP, I don't think you're allowed to do an AOS.. At least that was what I was told by the Singapore Consulate, not too sure about yours, but I think one of the requirements about travelling on a VWP is that you HAVE TO return back to your country of residence within the 90 day deadline...

This is not true.

Thanks guys, now to finding out how to convert my high-school GCSE's so i can study in a community college? I hope that's enough :-S

Are these A Level or O Level GCEs? A Level count as 3 credit transfer classes. O's don't.

They are from High School, year 11. GCSE's... english, maths, science and then your options. I got 3 B's, 6 C's, and 3 E's.

Before GCSE's, there were A levels and O levels. GCSE's replaced O levels, so I would think your GCSE's would count as O levels in any info you find. Hope that helps!

Remember banks here will charge you for an account - I haven't bothered with my own yet as I am not working and don't want to pay!

Oh and yes, it is possible to do AOS from VWP.

Removing conditions:

10/9/10 - Package sent to Vermont

10/13/10 - NOA1 date, received 10/18

I was told by someone on here you can't really convert GCSE's and A'levels, only degrees. I was also told that, for work work purposes, I have to explain that my grades show I passed the equivelant of High School. Not sure how you would do this for college. Have you contacted the college and see what they said about it? If you can convert they may have a list of preferred evaluators.

This is not true. I have already had my biometrics appointment on the VWP. If you look around, you'll see stories from people, such as Jon&Lindsey, wo have successfully adjusted from it. We all have our own unique circumstances, but the constant is that we did not have intent to marry and/or stay here and adjust status when we entered the United States.

Thanks everyone for the help with the bank, i may inquire. Don't know if it's worth it, might wait until i get my SSN.

As for the high school GCSE's, if they count as O-level that would suck, which i think they do. So how do i go about getting into a community college? (i want to get into one to build up my credit to transfer.) Will my O-levels be sufficient for a community college does anyone know?

O-levels are the old exam's so I wouldn't think it matters if you have O'levels or GCSE's. I'm 24 and I have GCSE's. Like I said before contact a college you are interested in and see what their entry requirements are.

I already have done so. Bergen Community College in NJ. They sent me an information and applications package and highlighted the following: (which i might add, means nothing to me. I attended high school in England, got my GCSE's. Then went to a couple of college, i didn't complete the first one as i wanted to move, and the second because i came here. I think i should send my official GCSE transcripts over i guess?) Do i even have to prove anything for a community college once i am a legal resident here... because i am not even transferring, i don't belong to any college at the moment.)

TRANSFER ADMISSIONS:

Transfer admission students must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program to have their transcript reviewed and evaluated. Official transcripts from each post-secondary institution should be sent to the admissions office.

Students who attended institutions og higher learning in other countries must have their transcripts evaluated course by course by a National Associational of Credential Evaluation Services. (www.naces.org)

From the stuff they have sent it seems they think you are transferring over from higher education in the UK to higher education in the US, which you arn't. I would contact them and ask if your GCSE certificates are all that are needed to enrol.

Yes, it seems to me that you are not transferring, just starting from the beginning. Getting your actual GCSE certs sounds like a good idea, but be careful - my birth cert just got lost in the mail despite it being sent recorded delivery :(

Damn that sucks, i'm sorry to hear that. Starting from the beginning is right, and i lost the original GCSE certificates i had somewhere along the line, so i'm gonna have to order new copies anyway. Which costs about 40 pounds i believe. Sigh.

Good idea, i am not looking for a degree seeking program, just classes to build up my credit. I'll write back to them now.

Sigh.

That sucks too! Best of luck with the application process.

Hi VJers,

My Wife and I are going through the adjustment of status from the VWP, as many of you will already know. We have a joint bank account together at commerce, but i'm also looking to get my own, possibly at the Bank Of America. Does anyone know if this is possible and what i will need to bring, and if anyone has had any success in the past? I don't yet have my EAD, so no SSN. But that should be coming up soon... I have my passport, expired i-94 and all my NOA's, as well as a stamped biometrics appointment letter.

Thanks,

Rich

You'll definitely need a SSN to open an account on your own. Most likely have to wait for the EAD.

Not true, you can open a bank account with a passport alone.
