Hiya

I am in a bit of a panic now, because I thought i was on top of all the AOS stuff, until realising about the I693. I did the medical for the K1 visa, so have the records of vaccinations from that, but having spoken to Dr. Arnold's office in Texas they said they wanted evidence of amongst other things a chickenpox vaccine. I don't think I have ever had this, as it is not offered in the UK, and the lady on the phone said that there were 2 vaccinations needed for it and had to be 30 days apart. As I am getting married on Nov 8, and want apply for AOS (or more accurately the work permit) ASAP, what are your suggestions? Should I apply without the I693, get the vaccinations done, and then wait for the RFE? Get the vaccinations done now? Or am I missing something...

All help and advice very gratefully appreciated.

Most of the time if you are in the middle of the series you are good to go... so, at a minimum get the first one and then file... finish the series at the proper time and if they need that information they will ask you for it so be preapred... but unlikely they will

YMMV

You don't need to wait until you complete both shots to file. As long as the first dose is administered, it's considered "complete" by CIS for application purposes. Many people just get the first dose, let the Civil Surgeon mark the form and never go back for the rest.

From CIS website:

Q: Does USCIS require that all shots in each vaccine series be completed before applying for adjustment of status?

No. The applicant must have received all the required age-appropriate vaccines that could be given at the time of the medical exam. If the applicant has started the vaccination series, but is not able to complete all the required shots because, at the time of the medical exam, the minimum time interval between shots has not passed, the applicant may still apply for adjustment of status. A waiver is available in cases where, due to required time intervals, it was impossible for the applicant to receive all shots in the series before submitting the application for adjustment of status.

For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine requires that applicant receive two doses of vaccine, six months apart. If the applicant receives the first dose in January, he or she does not have to wait until July, when the second dose would be given, to submit the adjustment of status application. However, the applicant must have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, if appropriate, before applying for adjustment of status.

That's good. A supplementary question is that if I had chickenpox a child and can show medical records of it could I get away with not taking the vaccination? Or would I need to take the titer test?

Thanks, you guys are getting me out of a pickle!

Also, call the office back and make sure they will give you the chicken pox vaccine. When my hubby was getting his vaccines in the US, we had a very difficult time finding a provider who could give an adult the vaccine. In the end a US civil surgeon was the only one that would administer it. I hope you have an easier time. I'm sure you will.

Depends on the CS, some will accept old medical records that it was done, while others will charge you to do a titer test.

Ok, now I'm worried, I had chicken pox as a child, and when I started my job here (I work in a hospital) they redid some of my vaccinations, but just put down VH (varicella history) on my vaccination record, which I then got the civil surgeon to copy over when they did my medical. They never mentioned any other shots I would need....the only shots I've had is HepB, and the list has rotavirus, hepA, menigococcal and HPV on it. Do I need to go get those done in preparation of an RFE?
