If you asked your neighbors just on the issues where they stand, I'm confident you'd find them overwhelmingly in favor of Obama's policies over McCain's.

And why do you think that means anything?

This afternoon, a neighbor of mine told me she hated Bush, the war in Iraq, blames the Republicans for the economy, but won't vote Obama because his "background is bizarre".

Lots of people won't vote on policy.

Because I'd go into a severe state of depression if I actually believed that most American voters would vote against the policies they support, at this moment in history, with all the issues we are facing.

Who said 'most'?

'Most' American voters don't need to do that. 5-10% is enough to tip it over.

Point taken. However, if we're talking about percentages, the Republican ticket has more negative than positive. McCain's choice for VP, IMO, has turned out to be more a negative than positive. It may have brought over some while turning away many undecided and independents. Even the polls among evangelicals show that McCain, even with Palin, is not winning them over as the Republican Party has done in the past.

Research this....Truman was wayyyyyy down in the polls and thought by all to have lost, including his own staff.

Go figger!

Figger??? :o Keep telling yourself that. As if that time in history even closely resembles now.

I ask you this....Realistically, how many people do you believe are polled, and how many answer truthfully?

Have you been polled?

Think about it......

Thanks, AJ, for the kick in the pants. Out popped my credit card. I'll check in with the local Obama office and offer a few hours before I go back overseas next week.

Hope your news story has similar effects on other Obama supporters.

Could this be the thing that brings Obama down?

If this tape does exist... and is released it could sink his ship for sure.

Ok, the polls that predicted Truman's win were HIGHLY flawed. They didnt take into account poor working class voters who all turned out and voted for him. A properly done poll wouldn't have showed a landside victory for the other guy.

Well, in one sense, it does. A part of the reason for the wrong headline was because the pollsters were inaccurate. They were polling by telephone, and didn't accurately account for the voters who had no phone at home.

Since that time, pretty much EVERYONE has a landline phone, so it's been really easy to get a statistically accurate sample of voters by calling numbers from the phone book.

But now, some people are dropping their landlines in favor of cell phones. How many? Are they disproportionally in favor of one party or another? Have the pollsters accurately accounted for them, or perhaps overcompensated?

Also, some people have "poll fatigue" and may hang up on pollsters or give intentionally wrong answers.

All in all, I suspect the polls are mostly right, but it's got to be really tough these days to know you've got an accurate random sample of real voters, and there's only one poll that really counts. As soon as one side thinks it's all over and not worth taking the time to go in and vote, then the other side can slide in to victory.

So go ahead and read the polls, but then be sure you go ahead and vote.

Are you seriously following polls at this feverish pace?

If I were to, I'd be a nervous wreck.

Why? Your candidate has no chance of winning.

He's making a point - and a good one. I can't stand people that crow over victories that are not yet won. It 'aint over until the fat lady sings :)

How true. Ask the Patriots about the Super Bowl.
