i entered US via fiancee visa. we recently got married in LA and we got a "license and certificate of marriage" which says CUSTOMER COPY. we also requested and paid for our marriage to be recorded and they said a certified copy of marriage certificate will be delivered in 6-8 WEEKS.

however, i really want to apply for AOS soon, 6-8 weeks is too long. my question is, can i submit a customer copy of marriage certificate instead of the certified one? the AOS instruction just says submit a copy of marriage certificate.

for those who have submitted a customer copy of marriage certificate, did you get an RFE for that or was it accepted? i would greatly appreciate your response. thank you!

You can go down to your local Recorder's office and pick up a certified copy right away, that is what I did (and many others too). Usually it is available within a week you get married. If they mail it to you that's what makes it take so long.

I was able to go down to city hall, recorder of records department, and fill out a little form, pay $15 (?), and get it within minutes. They actually took the form we filled out for the marriage license, printed it ouf of the computer, stamped, and embossed it. It was easy.

I, personally, would send the certified one rather then the customer copy.

When we got married I ordered several copies of the registered marriage certificate from the county Recorder's office. I made a copy of that and sent it in with the AOS and had no problems.

thanks so much to those who replied!

i called the county where we got married to ask if i can pick it up. they said i can request and pay another fee for the marriage certificate and they can print it right away IF it's already in their system. why didnt they tell it to us before? now we end up paying twice. oh well, hopefully it's in the system when i go there so i wont waste time. and the original request that we made will still be delivered in 6-8 weeks.

thanks again everyone. God bless.
