We'll never be an isolated country. Never have, never will...and to be scared by that - that's also a tradition. Once immigrants settle and the second generation starts complaining about the new people in town. Xenophobia is a human condition.

This is what I find so amusing when people complain about how their town/city/neighbourhood/community is changing. As if everything was static when they were born. Why do Americans speak English? Or Australians? Why is Spanish spoken in South America? Which 'constant' are you looking for?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
