I get kidney infections all the time. Why? Because I refuse to give up Diet Mountain Dew and coffee. Either one will pretty much guarantee a kidney infection in your future.

Really? I've been a pretty heavy coffee drinker for the past 25 years and I have yet to come down with a kidney infection. Of course, I keep a healthy balance by flushing them kidneys regularly by consuming just below room temperatured beer. :P

There is something at the drugstore called Azo, short for phenoazopyridine, which I use when stones or infection appear. Under $10. Says "Fast relief from urinary pain, burning, urgency and frequency associated with urinary tract infections". Also says to ask a doctor before using if you have kidney disease. I have always assumed that is because they do not want me to just cover up the pain and then go untreated, and so I used it anyway. It seems to provide analgesia for me specific to the site involved and gives me no drowsiness or other side effects. Of course I'm not a doctor or pharmacist. So i cant recommend it to you, but I only say that I use it. Use at your own risk and all that.

Oh, and it works great for cystitis. It does stain however, and that looks a bit like flourescent blood in some brands or bright bright yellow to orange in others, which might be shocking to not know, or cover something up.

Also for those of you from the UK, it cannot seem to be gotten there, where they all seem to say they never heard of it. Which is a major shame.

Maybe I'm all wrong but it seems to work better than swimming pool water !?? ... Just kidding. But you know how it is when it hurts bad enough! ... :)

I have no burning or urgency or what have you - just the ache /gripe in the kidney area (front and back) - somewhat relieved by drinking VAST amounts of water at the moment (tho the pain is alot worse in the evening for some reason). I feel like I'm about to metamorphose into a FISH.

I've never had cystitis either - or anything like that.. last time the doc gave me I think it was amoxicilin and that finally got rid of it at the end of the course (took until the last day to go tho).

And yeah, have never heard of that stuff Mr Ktun.. good tip for people stateside tho :)

Mr Ktun

I have had this medicine many times for months on end and it did nothing to help me!!!

Paul and I met on the Bazaar on the 14th January (he joined my progressive rock forum that day)

July 3rd he flew to England to meet me

We fell in love while he drove all over the place coz I cannot read maps (we were supposed to go to Ingleton - but touched Darlington 4 times, Pierce Bridge 6 times, Scotch Corner twice and Bernard Castle twice and we never did make it to Ingleton)

It has been so long and so much has happened in between...

Arrived in Houston on October 29th 2006

Married 17th November 2006

Lost my father 8th January 2007 (all dates are a blur after this)

heheheheh I just got a prescription of Vic's for my back..wooooooooo doggie!!! They are the ONLY thing, taken 2 at a time, that help. The pills must have scared the pain away tho, because it hasn't been quite as bad for the last few days, so I haven't taken any. DEF. saving them for when I really need them, and as long as I don't abuse that he's willing to refill them when need be.....after signing a paper and initialing about a dozen items!!! Boggles the mind how much people abuse those things...but they are sure helpful when you're really in a lot of pain!! Took two the first time, and couldn't believe that it hurt SO bad and then just..nothing..for a few hours...BLISS!!!!

Jay...sorry for the mini hijack, and back to regularly scheduled programming now!! Hope you get to the doc today, and you're feeling much better soon!!!! (F) M.

I have drugs!

yay

Well I have an anti-bacterial and she made me do a test which wont be back for a few days - but she didn't withold the treatment - and btw - she thinks its possible I have some small stones - she said most (MOST not all) UTI /kidney infections recur due to stones and if mine recurs she will book ultrasound for further tests.

In the meantime, its back to the major water (just call me buck-skin) and pain pills til this thing is cleared.
