I remember that. You irritated a lot of people with your p*ssy attitude and then assumed that people were somehow obligated to reply to a rather ridiculous and entirely subjective question.

It's was a fairly simple open-ended question and posters got angry because they didn't listen or care to listen to Obama's speech for content. Even funnier is how you are still pissed off with a neutral question. Hell, where were all the people quoting the great statements in his speech? It told me even the most pro-Obama folks really don't care what Obama says or stands for- it's all about style and how much they hate Bush. It's too outlandish ask somebody about any specific on an Obama speech but we have to analyze every line of Palin's interviews.

I'm still waiting for someone who believes Obama's pledge that the U.S. will free of foreign sources of oil within 10 years.

You asked for a memorable quote that would go down in some sort of hall of fame like MLKs "I have a dream" or JFKs "ask not what your country can do for you...". That doesn't have anything to do with the content of the speech - just whether people have a jingoistic reaction to it.

I have no idea whether Obama can deliver on what he promises - but the fact that he made promises (such as ridding ourselves of our dependence on foreign oil) provides something tangible that he can be evaluated against.

remembering things word for word, is simply not the way memory works. We remember the 'ask not what your country' line because it has been repeated so many times. I remember lots of the sentiments and intentions that Obama expressed in his speech, you know - the Content. The Meaning. Being able to quote something verbatim is a sign of rote learning, not understanding.

Pretty much. Pulling out mnemonics doesn't really mean anything in regard to the content of the speech. If Alien wanted to discuss the content - he should have asked a different question.

Look.

Let's face it people.

A 12 year old can run this country better than anyone at this point.

Go ahead and ask youth about the environment (pollution, resources, etc.), renewable energy, economics, health care, education, even pro-choice....

in fact many would quote Sarah Palins repititon of lines over and over when interviewed as evidence of her lack of understanding.

'he has recused himself....' She must have said that 3 times

I think it was particularly poor that she couldn't provide an example of John McCain's regulatory reforms in response to a question about the bailout. She should have had a reply to that.

I suspect that brought up in a different way, perhaps a different place, this woman would have been a great politician.

It seems to me that he major shortcoming is not intelligence. She's plenty intelligent. She just doesn't care. She's not at all interested in the world, she is not interested in the governmental processes that she wishes to become a part of. The woman feels entitled to be there, and truthfully doesn't see why all these interviewers insist on asking her these questions. It's very Bush-esque.

Not to be little JFK but, his Ask not what your country can do for you, was a misquote from the Romam Emperor Cincinatus

Not to be pedantic - but Cincinnatus wasn't a Roman Emperor. He (very) briefly held dictator's powers during the Republican era. Rome wasn't an Empire, technically, until the ascension of Augustus Caesar -just over 400 years later.

I didn't ask for a verbatim Obama quote just something, anything that worth remembering at such a historic occasion. Not being able to recall anything is a sign no one is truly listening or the speaker isn't exactly inspiring or both.

She just doesn't care. She's not at all interested in the world, she is not interested in the governmental processes that she wishes to become a part of. The woman feels entitled to be there, and truthfully doesn't see why all these interviewers insist on asking her these questions.

She's not a senator in Washington but a state governor. She didn't expect to be the VP candidate so of course she's going to seem a bit raw but then again Obama has few qualifications to becoming president. How is she entitled? She's not Hillary expecting to president because of her husband.

Biden and Obama are part of the U.S. Senate and have known each other for 4 years. That sounds nice but it didn't help Kerry/Edwards or Gore/Liberman. Both of those teams quickly parted ways after failed election bids.

I'll bet there will be plenty of people looking for memorable phrases at tonight's debate and there will thread(s) on it.
