Mary just got her EAD card in the mail last week. So she has her Wisconsin drivers license, ss card, ead, and even her own credit card... all we need is that GC. We don't have to be in Toronto until late April, but it'd be nice to go at the end of February for our nephew's birthday. She hasnt seen her family (except for parents) since the wedding, 3 months ago.

Congrads jonandmary for receiving the EAD in the mail  I also received my EAD in the mail last Friday and it was very exciting to get. WOW Mary sure is getting her stuff together and congrads to all of the accomplishments she has done so far. You guys will get that interview letter soon. My interview is on Feb 3 so I am preparing for that and once I get my green card in the mail, my wife and I are going down to Toronto for the weekend to celebrate my mom and my wifes b-day as they both have the same birthdays. We are also going out there to see family so it will be nice. I bet you both will be very happy that you will get to see family and friends. What line of work is she going to get into? How did Mary go about getting her drivers license?

What line of work is she going to get into? How did Mary go about getting her drivers license?

Her schooling is in Marketing/Communications - but we'll see what she can find in the area. She got her license back awhile ago. She got her SSN/Card in her maiden name before we were married and got it updated with the marriage certificate. She took that, the NOA from the AOS , and proof of residency and they gave her a license.

Oh ok hopefully she finds work in her field. I didnt know you could jus take the NOAs and proof of residency to get a drivers license, I will have to look into that since I live in the state of Ohio as the rules may be different. I thought you had to have your green card in order to get a drivers license.

Good to hear you had a good time Barrow! More good times ahead!

So I went to the RMV today to get my permit. The line was horrendous of course. After over an hour wait, my number was called and I showed all the i.d stuff I had - one of them being the NOA with my address on it as proof of residency. When I saw the woman get her manual out I knew I may be in for trouble! She told me that since the NOA's and EAD are all from USCIS, that it doesn't count!!! I never heard anything so ridiculous! I looked at her like she was crazy and she asked me if I had a utility bill...I give her letters addressed to me from the Department of Homeland Security and she wants a light bill?!!! Anyway, all that to say that she finally let up and allowed me to use the marriage certificate as proof of residency AND I guess, D.O.B. I breathed a sigh of relief when she gave me my slip to go and take the written part of the test. I did it, and by the skin of my teeth passed it. my thoughts to you all that have to get your license? Get the book, flip through it to find all the information that does NOT seem relevant - then study that!!! I say that I only just passed it because the majority of my questions were to do with Junior operators and since I am not one, I felt it okay to skip over that section! Good job I at least have an ounce of common sense, which came in handy today! So now I have my permit and need to get a road test and I'm good to go!

No other news for me!

You'll probably get a third too! When they send you the "We mailed you a notice..." or something like that e-mail - that's when they have actually put your card in the mail.

I am sitting in my hotel room right now about to goto bed. I have my bloody biometrics in the morning at 10am. Costing me about $200 to get it done as I live on an island and they scheduled it in some town Id never heard of near Providence rather than the much closer and easier Boston. So anyway, hope it goes smooth. Any tips?

Congrads to Val for getting her EAD approved. She should receive the card in 10 days. By the time she gets her EAD, she really isnt going to have much use for it, as it is coming really near to your interview date. It is good though, that you do at least get it though, and I agree you do learn a whole lot about the immigration process, and you did put it well, its about patience and appreciation, I have no complaints about my journey at all.
