I think McCain showed he DOES have more experience in foreign affairs.

I think Obama showed an understanding of how the fundamentals at home have to be in place before we can be effective in foreign affairs.

I don't think either of them WON the debate.

If McCain hadn't tried to pander so much to the veterans, I might have given the night to him. Except for this:

Why does McCain keep trying to bull$hit the American people by comparing the tax structure in Ireland to the US? How can you compare the tax structure of a nation who basically has its infrastruture underwritten by the EU to ours?

That was the point in the debate where I wished I had had a bullhorn. And I wished Obama has asked him how he comes to those conclusions. Seemed like a point well missed, to me.

rebeccajo, your post does remind me of what I think of politicians today -- minimalists in terms of useful hard knowledge regarding things of relevance, and all of their "experience" catering to billboard-esque marketing style politics.

I looked around on the internet to see what the opinions were concerning who won & even the right leaning "experts" had a draw or Obama slightly winning. McCain needed a knockout & he definitely did not get one tonight.

One thing that kind of irked me was that McCain wanted to make it a mud wrestling match & not a debate about the topics that matter to the American people. However both candidates threw some mud & here's a rundown of the accuracy of each candidate's allegations:

I kept laughing and was pretty entertained. I had some popcorn and a bullhorn so I could yell at the TV.

Me too, except for the bullhorn part.

Both candidates looked a mess to me last night.

Am I the only person who thinks John McCain looks like the guy from Men In Black? It's all that saggy skin around his jawline. Ick.

I especially chuckled at the part where McCain put out a "new" proposal to have the feds buy up mortages and renegotiate them at lower principal.

That "new" provision was put into the bailout bill by Senate democrats and is now law. Guess McCain didn't read the bill!

Obama did very well. McCain pandered, obfuscated, and was, as one would expect, behind the times.
