I hear a lot of people talking about the HPV requirement for AOS and I had a question. When I had my medical for K-1 the HPV vaccine was required for me (you had to show you started the series). At that time (or so I thought, I could be wrong) in April 2008, I had read that it wasn't required for the Adjustment of Status. So... I only got one shot done and left it at that (my appt for the second one was the supposed to be the same day that I moved) I decided to only get one shot because I didnt really want to get the shot at this point in my life and, frankly, I couldn't really afford it.

On the vaccine list that they gave me from the medical the lady put down the date of my HPV shot, and then checked that I had completed the series (even though I didn't). I sent this form in with my AOS (I didn't fill out a I-693). I expect to get a RFE for the I-693 and I'm wondering, will it be okay that it says I completed the HPV series or will the Civil Surgeon notice that there is only one date for the HPV shot and demand I re-do the series?

or will it not matter because my medical was before they made it a requirement for AOS?

I know I should have completed the series, so if I do have to take the first shot again I'm cool with that. If not maybe I will get it later when I get a family doctor.

I really appreciate any responses, and sorry if this is a topic that is talked to death about.

Hello!

You don't have to get the 3 shots completed before or at the time of med examination (or just signature of I-693)!!! It is allowed to have started a serie and not completed it, because there was not enough time in between 2 shots.

And if you got your medical exam done in your country before August 1st, then you don't need to have the new vaccination requirement done, meaning no Gardasil necessary.

FYI: However, if you did have your med exam after june 1st, you will need the TST (tuberculosis skin test).

I know I read that somewhere, probably on CDC website... I will try to find it again!

I know its good for me, but I shouldn't be forced to take something like that, especially if it only protects against 4 strains of the virus. But thats neither here nor there... I read the USCIS notice about the new vaccine and tb requirements and I believe I dont need either because I had my medical in april.

I guess my question is will the civil surgeon consider that series of shots incomplete? and if s/he does then will I be required to do them again or will it not matter because I had the medical in april?

has anyone had to get the other tests/shots even if they had the medical less than a year ago?

Hi there. I had my medical at the philippines around March of this year..and the CS still told me that Im required to have the HPV shot (1st of 3) and a varicella titer (to see if my immunity with varicella is still good). The CS will transcribe in the I-693 that you just had 1 shot for example of HPV and thats good to go. You dont have to complete the 3 doses, 2 months after the 1st dose it is required to have the 2nd dose, that is "IF" you want to complete the whole series. I didnt

Have you filed AOS yet? You just got one shot(and since last April, many months though), so I am not sure if USCIS ask you for more documents about medical exam. You probably start the first shot again.. Thats what I think

Yes, I think you need to make it complete, and it will be good for you too

Once the form is checked "completed" by the doctor after receiving the first shot, it's the applicant's responsibility to complete the series, but it's not mandatory. People really shouldn't give advice if they aren't sure they know what they're talking about.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You DON'T have to complete the series of any vaccine, you just need to receive the first shot for it to count towards AOS. The Civil Surgeon should mark your form as "completed" once you received the first shot. It's your responsibility to complete the series. Many people just get the first one and never go back.

From CIS website:

Q: Does USCIS require that all shots in each vaccine series be completed before applying for adjustment of status?

No. The applicant must have received all the required age-appropriate vaccines that could be given at the time of the medical exam. If the applicant has started the vaccination series, but is not able to complete all the required shots because, at the time of the medical exam, the minimum time interval between shots has not passed, the applicant may still apply for adjustment of status. A waiver is available in cases where, due to required time intervals, it was impossible for the applicant to receive all shots in the series before submitting the application for adjustment of status.

For example, the Hepatitis A vaccine requires that applicant receive two doses of vaccine, six months apart. If the applicant receives the first dose in January, he or she does not have to wait until July, when the second dose would be given, to submit the adjustment of status application. However, the applicant must have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, if appropriate, before applying for adjustment of status.

Thanks for all the responses :) Its good to know that others have only had one shot and never went back. Thats what I hope to do. but by all means, if they demand I take the first shot again then I will do so.
