I am offically starting the K-1 Visa process. I am following the guide and think it is pretty easy only need to have everything in order and complete. I am one simple question regarding the 5th point, original statements from both me(US Citizen) and my Fiance.

5.) Original statements (from both the US Citizen and foreign fiance) certifying an intent to marry within 90 days of entering the US on a valid K-1.

should we use the example sample that it shows or do one ourselves in another format? and is it a problem to have the exact same one with just changing our names and stuff? or should we have 2 different ones saying something different but the same? Also my fiance doesnt speak english, does she need to have the offical translation signiture by someone or can i be the one certifying the offical translation or does she need to get someone in Colombia to do that?

Also futher down the line what documents does my fiance need? birth certificate? she only has her cedula (offical identification card) her birth certificate she would need to go to her birth town and get, is it necessary? thanks in advance

plagarism in this situation is OK

Check the Bogota embassy website, but the applicant will most likely need the BC.

YMMV

We used the same format/language as the example (changing only appropriate names) and had no issues as most folks also experienced.

Your fiance will definately need her:

  • birth certificate
  • valid passport
  • police certificate(s)

visas go in the passport... they cannot issue a visa without one.

Police Records

Police certificates (Pasado Judicial) may be obtained in Bogota at the Identification Division of the Department of Administrative Security (DAS), Colombia's equivalent of a federal law enforcement agency. Colombian police certificates contain information regarding outstanding warrants only. They contain no information regarding prior arrests and/or criminal convictions. Police certificates have a validity of one year.

The immigration division of DAS can provide a Colombian citizen's record of entries and departures from Colombian national territory since 1990.

she has her current Pasado Judicial issued in June July 2008, they are valid for 1 year, so if it is still valid in time for the interview it is OK right?

For consulate purposes, the PC's are typically valid for 1 year. You are way ahead of yourself. You will soon learn that each consulate does things a little differently and it is important to learn exactly what your consulate does.

thanks for the help, i actually just read the requirements and guidelines from the US Embassy in Bogota, and now i know what is needed for the Interview. Yes i still have a question or 2 regarding that, but like you said i am way ahead of myself. i am going to organize and send out the K-1 petition first then organize everything and get everything i need. I will ask the questions as i come across them. Thank you very much....
