Hi Friends,

Sorry for all the sudden stupid questions! Really thought we were prepared for AOS, and now i see we are not.

We just got our marriage certificate. i see to file AOS for your spouse, you need to submit a certified copy? Does this mean, back to City Hall to try to get another copy? Or do we just phone copy and have it notarized or something like this?

Thanks again for the much needed help!!

Just like other documents - a copy will do just fine - original/certified copy kept on hand when/if an interview is scheduled.

Hello.

I called USCIS, asking exactly the same question.

They told me that just a photo copy is fine. So, you do not have to send in a certified copy.

You just need to go to Kinkos or somewhere like that to make a quick copy. :star:

You want a photocopy of the actual legal certificate with a state county or court stamp, not just a ceremonial certificate. If it's something you walked out of the church with, it's not going to work. If it came in the mail from a registering authority, it will.

Thanks Everybody for your quick responses!

i just did a quick search and found a lot of different answers for the same question...

We have the official document from NYC City Hall, with the raised seal and everything.

So just to clarify, a color photocopy should be fine to send into USCIS for now, along w/the rest of the AOS packet?

And we can worry about certified copies & originals at the time of interview?

Thanks again for the help and clarification!

it doesn't have to be colour, it can be black and white, and if you copy the raised seal certificate, that's exactly what they're looking for! Bring the original raised seal certificate to the interview if you get one.

Of note to you and others that might be reading this, you do NOT have to send originals anymore. See the uscis website.
