I bought a Canon iP1800 printer from Walmart. Cost me about $50 and so far gives me the best print of any "cheap" printer I ever had. The ink that comes with it seems to last a long time also.

I recommend Canon as well. I have an iP1500. Ink is cheap, and it prints very well.

Does this printer print out good quality digital photos? This is what I'm looking for in a printer. My HP 1210v does a crappy job of it and I buy HP ink. I've heard Epson does a very good job with digitals too.

Well.....ya see.....

Mags and I actually use an Oki colour laser printer now, and it blows anything else away that I've used (aside from the pro-model printers when I was a graphic designer).

For serious photo use - in an ink jet - I would concur with what you've heard...go for an Epson.

Well, I have been looking on eBay for a really good colour laser printer. I've been getting into digital photography a lot lately and with the few small projects I've done on Photoshop I'd like to eventually get a portfolio together of stuff. Of course, this will be a while down the road. :) Anyhoo, I figure once a few things are taken care of here, I would definitely want to invest in a good quality printer.

I'll check out the Epson too... :)

Thanks guys!

been a while since i've had a printer, but one thing i learned - compare prices of the ink cartridges. i think it's canon and a few others that have the colors separate, which makes for a major price difference when replacing them.

Doesn't anyone refill their own ink cartridges?

You can save a ton that way!

2 weeks back I bought a canon MX700, LOVE IT!!!!! Has the individual ink cartridges. It is a multi-use machine--it copies, scans, prints and has a fax. I have used al the features except fax! Works awesome!!! My dad has it as well (close to a yr) and he loves it!! I bought it for $129 at bestbuy! Check out newegg.com I really have no major complaints about. maybe a tad loud when scanning, not a big issue. You can read reviews about the mx700 on bestbuy.com or circuitcity.com epinions.com has reviews on many products, but wasn't able to access the review on the mx700

The software it comes with is great. And I was able to easily network it between my wifes and my computer!! Ink cartridges are much cheaper than what i was paying for my old HP machine

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1
