Depending on your country legal age limit to get married. If your country requires you to be 25 to get married, then you need to be at least 25 years old to get married, and if you are below this age then you need parents consent. If you dont get parents consent then your marriage can be void null..like it never existed. Same thing if the age limit to get marriage is 18years old.. if you are under 18 and the law requires you to be at least 18 to get married, then you need marriage consent from parents..

Correct...PI act of Congress established 25 as the age of legal consent to marry.

Note that those under 25 may need approval of both parents (if they are living).

Also note that to receive the certificate required, you may need a copy of your fiance's passport and other documentation.

Check with your local government early and often to avoid delays. Depending on where you live, delays can be very costly and time consuming.

For those that think it's an absurd guideline, consider that many people (male and female) live in their parent's home until the age of 18.

During these years, they are told that they are still children, and are without the capacity to make wise decisions. In most cases, that is accurate.

In many cases that is clearly proven when they go off to college, experiment with drugs, alcohol, unsafe sex, and missing classes.

In a rare few cases, they do have the capacity to make wise decisions. In even fewer cases have they had the opportunity to actually make a wise

decision on something that can affect the rest of their life.

Also, for every older gentleman that falls in love with a young PI woman,

there are 10 rotten men who would have her as little more than a toy, or slave to do their bidding.

It's good to have higher age guidelines...until we come to a point where we can properly educate people on the dangers of the world.

If there were compulsory classes on the dangers of marriage...and the dangers of foreign marriage, I would say the guidelines might not need be so high.

I just wish that all countries would have the same higher age of consent for those they would send to their death in war.

18 is a very tender age...we all pray that "some" wisdom is gained as we mature in age...or at least that we have the opportunity to mature in age safely.

We went thru the K1 process early this summer in PI.

18 to 21 need Parental Consent. If no parent then you can use a family member to give parental consent.

22 to 24 need Parental Advisement.

Not if the marriage will take place in the USA, which for K1 applicants absolutely must be the plan.

A 24 year old (an 18 year old actually) does not need parental permission to marry in any USA State.

One condition of the K1 visa is that the marriage occur in the USA within 90 days of US arrival.

True, not in the USA, but since the PI has this parental consent/advisement regulation, wouldn't that apply to the OP before the visa can be granted regardless of where the marriage takes place? I'm asking because I think I remember seeing something regarding this subject on here before.

If the PI requires parental advisement (whatever that is) prior to you leaving, then you'll need that. There is no such requirement inside the USA.

For a K1 Visa, the non-USC must be able to marry in his/her country of origin. Ergo, the OP would need to be able to marry in the Philippines in order to be granted a K1 Visa. So, if the PI says you have to have parental consent at 24, then you have to have parental consent.

No, this is not the USCIS rule. Both parties must be legally able to marry in the location where the marriage will take place.

You're right. I was referencing an article that was rather poorly written, in that the K1 info was mixed with the K3 info. I just saw the "must have signed letters of consent from parents" part under the heading of "K1" without realizing that they were comparing the K1 to a K3.

It's for CFO, A Philippine Govt. Agency. A stamp from CFO is needed in passport to depart country when marrying a foreign national.

to the OP, since you will be applying for your visa in Manila, I would suggest posting any other questions you may have about the process in the Philiipine Forum.

My Filipina fiance is 22 and I'm 29. I plan on sending out my K1 packet this weekend. Does she need to send me something with parent's consent? The closest thing I have to that is her letter of intent. I'm really confused now. Please help!
