Well I finally had my Green Card interview in Detroit on Wednesday( after waiting 3 years) and to date I do not have any answer whether I was approved or not.

My interview basically took nearly an hour. At first I was asked all the usual questions on the I 485 etc etc and some on the G25A. I was asked to pronounce my previous married name as I have since divorced after my K1 and filed a VAWA petition which was approved When I came to pronouncing the letter "h" the woman told me that I mispronouncing it and asked me to repeat the words eggs after her as that is how she said it be should be said. Well that was rather humiliating especially as I am English and wouldn't dream of correcting someone's accent.

Anyway she kind of complained the file was long and obviously hadn't read it as she spend the next 20 mins reading it whilst my attorney and I sat there in silence. Then she disappeared for 15 mins to say she needed to speak to a supervisor. 15 mins later she returned saying she couldn't find him, WTH. All I found out was that my FBI checks were cleared and then she proceeded to take my I 94 from my passport and my 2 expired EADS but let me keep my current one. She knew I hadn't seen my children for several years

Apart from that I do not know anything. Has this happened to anyone else? Not being told straight away what the decision is ?I was very upset when I came out and my attorney assured me it will be ok. She was pretty angry at the way I was treated but you don't exactly say how you feel to an Immigration officer during an interview.

Well I guess that's it. I'm in limbo yet again. It was a horrible experience. I just want an answer.

Approved pending everything being looked over? What does this mean? Did you get a stamp in your passport or your EAD back?

What kind of questions were fired at you within that hour...? What visa are you adjusting from?

Just curious!

I was self petitioning under VAWA.

The questions were not out of the ordinary, just the ones that I had already answered on the I485 and my name address etc. I have a rather large file and I have no clue as to what she needed to ask the supervisor about. All she said is that she would let me know.

Half of that Hour I sat there with my attorney not even being asked anything as she was reading the file. I did not get a stamp in my passport but she took the departure card -the I 94 from it. She also took my 2 expired EADS and let me keep my current one. I have no clue as to what is going on.

Another reason why attorneys can really be useless in these situations. I have a feeling that the IO was a bit unnerved at the attorney's presence.

Maybe she was . Well she had a sign up stating attorneys should not speak. Anyway my case was complicated, with dismissed removal proceedings and an approved VAWA petition. I needed her there with me.

I don't know..... Our experience in Detroit was pretty good. The interview last about 20 minutes, the officer said congratulations and we got the green card in the mail about 6 days later! It was good you had your attorney with you. If there are ever any questions later (hopefully it won't come to that) about the interview it won't be your word against the CO's, your attorney will have been there. Where does the CO get off telling you how to pronounce your own 'ex' name?! I'm sorry you had to go through that. I hope you hear an answer soon and will be able to see your boys.

Good luck to you.

Thanks Savannah,

Yes I was very nervous.I waited over 15 months to get my VAWA approved and then almost a year for the GC interview, although she read the file, she made no reference or asked questions about the VAWA petition. I was only asked questions fron the I 485 and biographic information. I'm not very good at dealing with stress after the abuse and I'm glad my attorney was there. She was infuriated at her making me pronounce the letter 'H' as she wanted it . She also thought it inappropriate when the officer asked if I smoke. There will be follow up action after and if I get my card, becasue I was treated with disrepect. I held my own and my attorney said I answered everthing perfectly.............. and now I just wait again

Thanks Beejay,

It wasn't my whole name just the letter h which she asked me to say the word eggs -that's how she said I should have said it. I was a teacher in England and taught phonics to lil uns. I felt stupid but what can you do apart from bite the bullet. She had the power and I didn't.

You mean the J in Juevos?

Why on earth would she ask you that, what's the relevance? And the smoking question?
