LLC or Incorporate or register a business in the U.S.

Hello Wonder-Full VJers,

If any of you have started a home-based or small business upon becoming a resident here in the U.S.

would you tell me what and how you did it, and why you chose that way?

I am looking at info on-line and there is so much stuff out there!

What a surprise...hahaha!

I am all too familiar with this shtuff in Canada including tax laws; all of it.

It is a whole different ball game here.

So, perhaps a small business course or something is in order...wonder what Chicago's got...

Look at your local school's community education offerings... they may have exactly what you need!

They threw in more to think about....like sole proprietor...which I is what i had in Canada, in both Quebec and in B.C.

Hi there: I've had a business here for the last 5 years or so. Highly recommend an LLC for your own protection over anything else. Since the US is a lot more litigious than Canada, it protects you from that stuff while giving you the same tax advantages of a sole proprietorship did in Canada. It costs a little but it totally worth it. You have my email address, just emial me directly if you have more questions and I can give you a full scoop off list if you like.

I'm resurrecting this old thread. It sounds like LLC is the way to go. Does anybody else have any experience with this? I'm looking at setting something up and I'm at the very beginning. There's lots of info, but it's a little confusing.

Search SBA or SCORE website. Search your own state requirement in forming a company. I filed an LLC company, me as a sole member. I like it coz its a limited liability. Being a sole member, its easier in tax filing as per my tax accountant.

Forming a company here is quite easy. BTW, i'm from AZ.

I paid 85 for expidited filing. Got appprove within two weeks. Regular filing is 50.00

I downloaded the forms, filled them up, drove to Arizona coprporation commission, submitted my forms, outs of filing office after 3 minutes.

It was quick and simple.

Browse your state on the requirements. I would suggest that you file it yourself. Dont bother with filing services that you see online.

My bank people helped me also. Bank needs EIN if you open a business account. It was my bank assistant that filed my EIN for free.
