It's hard to say YES or NO. I say think about it and discuss it with your spouse.

You would most likely obtain citizenship faster (depending on the your situation of course). What would you do in the military? Can you be away from your spouse for up to 2 years or longer? Financially there are BIG perks for you when you join and after you leave the US military (gaining a skill as well). Many things to consider.

There are many good and bad things...depending on your situation.

ill bring one perk of being in the US ARMY ....My cousin, married a man 10 years ago, they have 4 girls and 1 girl on the way..she is a stay at home mom and does not have to work at all. They have lived on army bases since marrying. He served 9 months in Dubai, and they will have to live in England for 2 years...BUT....in 10 years, 10 measley years, he can retire, at the age of 40, and live a comfortable lifestyle for the rest of his life

Can you give some more info? Are you already in the US ? Did you receive your green card and social security number yet? the US army will not take you without those 2 things.

Also are you thinking of joining as a translator? They are offering large signing bonuses for translators right now. In the range of $10,000 to $25,000 for signing a 2 or 4 year contract and at least 1 year has to be spent abroad, 95% chance of being in Iraq.

Like others asked, are you willing to be away from your wife for a year? The second year you can do in the USA on an army base and you can have her live near you if moving is an option and you don't currently live near a base.

They offer leave every 3 months (sometimes longer) for 2 weeks and they will fly you just about anywhere.. So for instance, you are serving in Iraq for a year and every few months they could fly you to Egypt or the US for a one to two week visit.

Again I am speaking about translators here, I'm not sure as a general enlist.

They are also offering monthly salaries in the range of $3500 USD per month up to $5000 USD per month (based on your level of education, english speaking ability and family size) That includes a housing allowance of up to $1300 USD (depending on your region) for your wife in the US while you are away.

Again, it's something to consider with your individual life and we don't know what that's like. Good for some, bad for others.

Great money and more than most immigrants will make here in the first years, but the immigration process is really long for some and to go through all of that only to be separated again by an ocean?

Whatever you do, I wish you both the best!!!

It's verifiable information lol However taking into account things that come out of a recruiter's mouth may be total BS. And considering they have a contract with you but you do not have one with them.

I'm not *that * naive but that's what they'be promising these days!!!

i think the monthly wage you listed is a bit high. plus the leave bit is quite unusual - a gal i work with, her fiance just came back from there on his 3rd trip and i've heard nothing from her about anything similar to him being able to leave every few months. (this is army - if you are referring to contractors then nevermind).
