If you were able to print the coversheet online it means that they processed your payment and you can send it right away.

Diana is correct....and THIS is why they don't want to give out the IIN.

The online payment system is really in a beta stage.

The operators don't know much about it, and there really aren't enough instructions.

When you use the online system, the DS-230 is NOT generated.

They expect you to download the barcoded cover sheet, as well as download the DS-230, and send them in on your own.

So Lotto and James' guides are correct, but out of date.

You can send 230 as soon as you can print barcoded cover sheet. I did receive 2 copies of IV bill in the mail, which had online payment instructions with IIN number, but it was 5-6 days after it was generated (but I got 2 of them!).

AVR system is behind always, by the time it's updated it will give you a generation date few days behind. So you do not have to wait until AVR updates to send 230, and you do not have to wait 1-2 days if you already printed cover sheet.

AVR does not update when they receive 864, the only way you will know they received 864 is if you call, or if they get 230 also and AVR says "your documents were received on ... "
