One of three Houston area youths accused of digging up a corpse and using its skull as a marijuana pipe has pleaded guilty to abuse of a corpse.

Kevin Wade Jones, 17, of Kingwood, was sentenced today to 240 days in county jail on the misdemeanor.

Officials said that Jones, Matthew Richard Gonzalez, also 17, and a juvenile whose name has not been released were each charged with abuse of a corpse in connection with the incident.

Jones told investigators in May that he and his friends dug up the body at an old graveyard in the Humble area and removed the head with a garden tool, officials said.

He also told police, officials added, that he and the other two boys used the severed head as a "bong" to smoke marijuana.

Police made three trips to the heavily wooded, snake-infested graveyard near the Eastex Freeway feeder road and FM 1960 before finding the disturbed grave. It held the remains of an 11-year-old boy who died in 1921.

Only one "Mexican" surname (Gonzalez is unique to Mexico, right?? ) is given in the story, and nothing is said of his legal status. The first one named has a Welsh/English surname, and the third teen's name wasn't released.
