Hey guys, our case has been at the nvc for over 2 weeks now and they wont give me the iin number. What have you all said or done to get the op's to give it to you? Some times when i call they say you cant use the online system, other times they say they are not allowed to give it and still other times they say its not generated yet and to wait 6-8 weeks. I have called over 30 times already. Any ideas?

Got to love the fact my wife was preggy and even with a RFE @ NVC she was still here in under 5 months!

Call at evening hours, after 7 pm and don't mention that you need IIN for online payment, just say you need IIN and if they ask why, tell them you want to keep it for your own sake.

There is no other way than calling them several times.

Thanks, I have tried calling both mornings and evenings to no avail. I guess I will keep trying...

Took me 8 tries to get mine. Between them, I received a variation of 3 responses:

"I can't give that to you."

Don't argue with these ones. They probably honestly believe this and aren't willing to bend (what they believe to be) the rules to make you happy. Half of my calls received this response, and my attempts at sweet talking merely ended with "I STILL can't give it to you" each time.

"Its not generated yet."

Again, don't argue. We know for a fact that the IIN is generated at the same time as the case #. If they're going to outright lie, then calling them on it will just make them defensive, not more cooperative.

"The online payment system isn't working."

Here is where I found leeway. When I was told only this, my response was to assure them that I was aware of this but just wanted the # for our records. The first rep who said this then switched to the "Its not generated yet" response and told me to call back when the bill is generated. The second rep who said this proceeded to give me the number.

And I hear there is a 4th mythical response where they actually give it to you no questions asked...but I was certainly not so fortunate! :)

I called twice to get mine. first time i tryed was in the early evening around 7pm and they simply stated that the online system wasnt working and they couldnt give it to me. the next day i tryed at around 11:30pm and they gave it to me no questions asked. maybe try calling late at night, around closing time, maybe at that time they are more willing to give it out and get off the phone so they can leave :)
