to all vj members,

with all your help i succeed to file a k-1 for my fiancee in japan, i'm sure i couldn't make it without you guys. now i would like to ask more a little favor if someone could help me to guide me through this AOS documents. here goes a little story, in march 29, 2007 my fiancee did her medical examination in japan, then she got her k-1 visa and finally got to chance to be with me in state. july 7, 2008 was the official date that she finally enter in the U.S. and got married this month of august, i'm very happy. now here's the asking favor i pretty much did all the documents from i-485, a copy of my fiancee's passport, valid i-94, birth certificate, marriage certificate, passport photo and the hard part the i-693. base on my research through this site that i should provide a form of i-693 with sign of CS. i made a lot of reservation last week to see all of those local CS but all of them ask me if i have the paper from immigration to transcribe the copy of my fiancee's vaccination legally. all i can say is no because i haven't yet submit any of my documents to them. at this part i'm really stuck!!! i don't know if i can simply send this documents with just a copy of vaccination. what you guys think should i just send it or there any other way to do this. i'm thinking since my fiancee came here with a k-1 visa and the medical examination was perfectly done in japan may be i'm okay just send it without the i-693 form. PLEASE HELP!

thank you very much sorry if my post was long,

We just re-did the vaccines. My hubby didn't have his paperwork, they kept it at his POE. So we went to the local health department and got all his vaccines (except the varicella/chicken pox) for less than $20. In my area the only people who would give the varicella vaccine to an adult was the CS. We took the records from the health department to the CS, he transcribed them, and administered the varicella. We got a copy of the I-693A for our records. We went through AOS without any problems. Hope this helps.

I read your post again and I want to point out that the form that you need is the I-693A, this is vaccine supplement. However, it does appear that your wife needs to have a complete medical exam done since her original exam was March 2007. Medical exams are only good for one year. We don't have my hubby's paperwork for his medical in Ethiopia, I'm guessing its the I-693 you are talking about. Make sure to complete BOTH forms.

The I693a was the vaccination supplement. As of May 1, 2008, it no longer exists. The vac sup has been incorporated into the new I-693 (part II). If your medical was completed within the past year, you do not need the full medical (although they may want a TB skin test if that was not completed as part of your medical). If you do not have vaccination records, you might contact the hospital where her medical was done and request they send you a copy. We took a copy of the new I-693 instructions (from USCIS.gov) to the CS to prove the whole medical was not required if it had been less than a year. You fill in part I, the CS completes part II and V only.

John

p.s. In the past, some people here have just sent their vaccination record (cs-3025?) that they received from overseas without any I-693 and got approved. Not sure about recent applications since the I-693 was changed.

I did not submit I-693. I could not find any CS in our area that charges $50 or lower. They want to always do a full medical on me before they fill up the I-693. I just photocopied my DS-3025 which I got from my medical exam in my country mailed that together with the other paperworks last June 19, 2008. I had my biometrics done last July 26, 2008. The rules have changed as of JULY 2008. You need a 693, if you dont want an RFE. Take the ds3025 which should have been given to you at the medical in Japan to the CS doctor. If you dont have that, and cannot get it, just get the vaccines done again at a clinic. It saves a lot of hassle in the long run.

Just send in a copy of the DS-3025. A lot of people have done that with no problems. Chances are it will be accepted. If they send you an RFE, only then should you go shell out $300 for a medical if you can find an honest CS who will just do what you need. The delay from an RFE is only a couple of weeks if you answer it promptly, but if they accept the 3025, you save yourself the money. Why spend money unless you have to. That's what we did, I sent my wife's forms July 23rd. I'm not saying we're good, but no RFE yet.

Cost will vary depending on the CS. Ours was about $120 for Rin ( complete medical for Rin with TB test) and only about $40 for the children for the CS to complete parts II and V since their medical was less than a year ago.
