Doctor Denton: LEAVE MS. Wallaway. NOW! Someone get her out of here.

Ian: *gurgle* *cough* Mel-Melodee! Gem. Ba-baby…I-I lo-o *eeeerrrrrrlllleee* *cough cough cough*

The nurse places a hand under Ian and turns him to his side, to keep him from choking on his own blood. The hospital staff wheels him quickly out of the examination room toward ER and the operating room. Melodee is crying and rocking back and forth against the wall. She had never felt so alone in one day in all her life. Her life was crumbling around her like a house of cards, and she was being buried under the tremendous weight of those cards.

Melodee reaches for her phone to call her best friend Chantelle. Then, she remembers that her best friend is in love with the man that she can’t seem to forget. That man laying strapped to a bed a few feet away from her, in the middle of a internal battle between fantasy and reality. Melodee finds herself struggling with feelings of envy toward Delmar; she only wished she could let go of her reality, escape to the perfect illusion of her past.

Melodee: I’m pregnant…I’m pregnant after all those years of trying. This should be the happiest day of my life, yet it feels like the end of the road for me. I may have HIV. I’ve always wanted to give Shotta his dream of a child. Why Ian? What is happening to him?

Melodee takes out her phone, and dials her mother.

Melodee: Mummie…mi halright…nuh mummie…nutten nuh go so. Mummie mi dere ah St. Ann Hospital. Shotta head gwaan mummie…im turn murdera an gwan. Nurse: Hexcuse me missus. Yuh name Melodee Wallaway?

Melodee: Ehhnn… ah whaa?

Nurse: A man, Delmar McCoy, is asking for you. He has been screaming all day about some woman named Mya. Now, he is asking for you…you are Melodee right? My co-worker told me that you were looking for him earlier…and that you may still be here.

Melodee: I-I don’t want to see him.

Nurse: I know, he does look really bad. But, it won’t be so bad once the swelling and bruising goes away. He can look almost normal after reconstructive surgery. Ms. Wallaway, he is in a sedated state, and he is no longer screaming out. He is muttering your name, and refuses to sleep until we find you. You should put your own mind at ease. Go see him. He has a long road ahead of him. He will need all the help he can get.

Melodee: O-Okay. Let me go to the restroom first.

Nurse: Sure. It’s right over there. Yuh dress sell hoff…ie sweet tuh rass.

Melodee: Th-thanks.

Toya: Fitzroy, baby. Baby wake up. You are having another nightmare. Frowzy is in a better place now honey. Hush baby…hush. It’s okay. I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. Are you hungry? Do you want me to bring you something? Rasta made some soup before he and Mya left. It’s pretty late. You slept all day…after…after…*blushing* we made love again. I can make something else if you don’t want soup.

Fitz: Eh? Frowzy man I’m sorry. Fr-Frowzy…Fr-Frowzy…Frowzy…Jah knoa…Toya? Baby don’t leave me. Please don’t leave me now. Huh? Whaa? Eehhnn. They left? When? What time is it? I did? Damn! We-we-we…huh? No baby…soup is fine.

Toya: Okay baby. Are you sure? I don’t mind doing something different. I’m here for you Fitz. You need to get as much rest as you can okay?

Fitz: Eeehhnnn. Bumbocla* baby! Why did you let me sleep all day? I’m sure Grandmummie and mummie need me! Rass! Did they call? What did they say? I need to get over there.

Toya: Fitz baby calm down. You are going to have a nervous breakdown. I would never let you sleep through something important. Me-ma and your mother are both fne. They called to check on you earlier. We are all worried about you honey. Rasta checked on them while Mya kept me company. He came back and made the soup, then they decided to head back to the hotel. Mya thought we needed some alone time. Let me go get your soup, and we can keep talking.

Fitz: Rass! What did they say? I need to call and big up Rasta. Mi bwoy come through nuff times still. I’m not going to have a nervous breakdown Toya. I’m a man. I’ve HAVE ALWAYS been there for my grandmummie when she needs me! The last thing on my mind is eating. I don’t know where you have been for the last 24 hours, but I lost my phocking brother…and you are pretending that everything is fine. You can’t protect me forever by hiding me away, letting me sleep and phock all day! Yuh should come and wake me when dem call.

I had to pick one to continue...and Stella was by far the most requested. So when I found the memory card...I read the end and got inspired...viola...here we are.

Toya: What? What did you just say? How dare you say…NO! No. *Lifts hands as a sign of surrender.* I know that you are grieving and stressed because of what happened to Melton. I’m not going to dignify your comments with an answer because of that. My only response is that I love you Fitzroy, and we will find a way to get through this…together.

Fitz: Get through what? What? Yuh manage tuh find a way fe resurrect mi brother? Eh? Ar yuh plan fe rooks mi hoff until mi neva rememba im? Yuh neva tink mi rest so important when mi give de hood eh? *kiss teet* Rasscloooot!

*Fitz gets up hurriedly, and searches for clothes. He turns in a complete circle, his frustration growing rapidly. He was so intent on finding jeans and a shirt that he never stopped to notice the unmistakeable look of devastation on his new wife’s face.*

Toya: You are out of line Fitzroy! I don’t deserve to be attacked or belittled for trying to support you during a difficult time for ALL of us. You are NOT the only one hurt by Melton’s death! I guess because I didn’t know him that well, my feelings should be automatically discounted. I wish like hell that I could bring him back for you and your family.

Fitz brushes past Toya with no thought of the pain coursing through her heart. He keeps his eyes diverted from her face, and stares through her as if she were the ghost haunting him. He grabs his car keys and wallet, and dashes out into the night without a glance back.

Toya openly sobs and crumbles to the floor. Her worse nightmare is coming true right before her eyes. She had been afraid of it all being too good to be true, afraid that someone would come and steal her true love away. The only part she didn’t envision was it being the death of his brother. Had she overstepped by not waking him? Where was he headed? Was there anything she could do to keep her happiness from plummenting off track into the black abyss?

Mya: Travis baby I love you more than you will ever know. I never thought it would be possible for me to love you more than I did when I first told you that I loved you. But, I do. Thank you so much for being there for my best friend, and her new family. You are so selfless. What did I do to deserve you?

Travis: Hush babes. I didn’t do anything special…it’s what we do in Jamaica. We rally together and help each other out in times of need. They are my family too Mya. I did what I had to do. What I’m confused about is what do I do about my own brother? Mya, my empress, I could have killed him. I-I-I could have stomped my own twin to death.

All I could see was blood…red everywhere. I was MAD because of what he did to you, and I wanted to murder him with my bare hands. When I saw the fear in your eyes – I was so afraid that I would never see you again. Then, to see Fitz holding his brother and begging him to come back. Bumbo! He didn’t have a pulse. He wasn’t breathing Mya. Frowzy just wouldn’t breathe baby. Travis places his scarred hands over his wet face, and sobs openly. His shoulders shudder with the forced labor of his overwhelming grief.

Mya rushes over to Travis to comfort him. She rubs his back soothingly, and Travis grabs her waist with both hands and pushes his head into her womanly curves. Mya stokes his dreads lovingly, wondering how she can ease her man’s burden.

Travis lifts his head slightly, and kisses Mya’s stomach all over. Mya stands completely still and holds onto Travis as hard as she can, while she battles her own guilt over the turn of events.

Mya: crying I-I-I don’t deserve this…I don’t deserve to be happy. This is all my fault! My selfishness and conceit caused this. I did this! I caused my best friend pain on the happiest day of her life. I cost you your own brother Travis. I-I-I don-don’t know what I would have done if the police had taken you away…away…away from me. I don’t deserve you Travis. I’m so sorry…I’m so so so sorry. Please don’t cry baby. I can’t take it. Please stop crying. Tell me what I can do to make this right. I’ll do it. I promise. I have to make this right – just tell me what to do.
