Hello and Thank You ahead for everyone's time.

I'm a USC filling the CR1 for my wife and 17mths old daughter to come over from Vietnam. My wife had her interview on August 5th, the Consulate officer only asked her two questions. First is the petitioner the natural Father of the child? Second, have you submitted the Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)?

Since we answered no to the second question, we were given the green slip and an appointment has been set for September to come back and submit the CRBA applications. The Consulate Officer said that our Visa would be approved once the CRBA is complete.

My question is, does anyone here knows how long the CRBA process takes?

Please advise.

Regards.

It just depends...from what i gather, it can take 3 weeks to 3 months. It depends on the consulate. If they question wether you are the father, then they can request a DNA test and that has to be sent back to the states and then the results needs sent back.

hi,

i did the consular repost of birth for my daughter at the consulate of us in toronto ,canada.

ti will take about 3 to 4 weeks from the date of the appointment.

i think there will be no need for the DNA test ,

the birth certificate of the child which shows both parents full names and date of births should be enough.

DNA tests are done only when there is lack of proof like a birth certificate.

good luck.

In our case (Ireland), we got their consular birth certs the same day of the appointment, just had to wait another hour or so, and their passports followed in the mail a couple of weeks later.

This is HCMC, not Toronto. They may ask for a D.N.A. test, so be prepared. I know of one case where they asked for one, but didn't follow through when an Attorney threatened to sue.
