Hi everyone,

We are really praying for you all to have quick and easy NOA2s...I know a ton will be coming in the next week!!

So for those of you who have already gotten your NOA2 and been tracking it...I read the description above on how to do it through DHL, but don't understand at all...

What exactly do we type in for the Reference number? Do we need to get that from the NVC?

Any explanation on this would be great!

Thanks!

Elizabeth

Nope...the reference number is a standard designated number based on the date your petition was mailed. So, for example, if your petition was mailed yesterday, on July 31st. You would search for reference code EXP 31 JUL 2008A The only part you will change is the middle, so that it is the date that your petition was mailed. If you can't find a shipment going to your country, change the reference number to the day before. When I was watching them I found that a lot of them would have a reference code for a day, but they were actually shipped out the NEXT day. Just go back or forth one or two days until you find a shipment going to your embassy. :)

See my timeline for my K-1 and AOS/EAD/AP details.

You'll never actually know what day your petition was mailed to the Consulate. NVC tells you a date but that's the date they completed your case and released it to be prepared for mailing and mailed. There is no actual NVC tracking of "date mailed" available to the operators.

You can see DHL tracking of packages sent to your Consulate on dates near the date NVC gives you. When all within a week or so of that date are delivered, yours probably is too. Even then, package delivery, doesn't mean the envelope was opened, the case logged in or any other progress has been made on the case.

Tracking status changes using DOS visa information line is more productive, IMO.

^^So basically, to find out if the embassy has your case...it's best to call the embassy itself and ask them. Right?

No, I said its best to call the DOS visa information line in DC to find out the status of a case once it leaves NVC. The status will change when the Consulate logs the case as received. In many cases, it's impossible to contact the Consulate directly by phone but the DC number is toll free and the operators have up to the minute status information.
