Wrong fee

Today I got the whole package back with a letter saying that they can't accept it without the right fee.

There was all kind of red pen writing on it. The check was stapled on it and had the numbers written on it that were on the NOA's that they sent. It was also stamped for deposit only on the back.

The letter said the fee was $465 plus $80 for each bio included with the application. The check was clearly written for $625. That was to cover Lucero, and Angelica. Unless have checked the math on every calculator in the house and the computer, as well as with Excel and my fingers and toes.

They obviously realized that Angelica was included on the application because they had corrected a typo in her A number. We had gotten 2 NOAs for this application. One had the amount at $625. We got another at the same time that had an amount of $545.

What did I do wrong?

Maybe you should separate the check for the biometrics and for the I751 application, just my thought.

So is $80 for each one plus the base filing $465...making a simple math of $160+$465 = $625

You said that you got two NOA's? one of your spouse and another for your child?

I really don't see the error, unless the person who manage your file is not looking your child as dependent or looking your child as a totally new application?

That is just not right.

You definitely sent the right amount. I don't know what else you could have done, other than send one check for $545 for your wife, and one check for $80 to clearly indicate two people on the petition.

As the USC, composed the cover letter for my two gals with their full names and A number at the Re: top of the letter.

Please find enclosed a check for x amount to cover the I-751 fee, plus $80.00 for my wife first name and $80.00 for my daughter first name for the biometric fees for a total of x amount.

Then listed the enclosed evidence.

Closed the letter by inviting USCIS to come stay with us as long as they wanted, but they never showed up. Check was attached to the top of the letter with a paper clip so they couldn't miss that and the bold print stood out. No problems, but the long wait was a major problem.

they probably just looked at the check (which I am sure is the first thing they look for ) and saw the "wrong" amount and sent it back to you without even looking at the packet...

I sent two separate checks, the $545.00 for me, and separate check for my son $80.00. I didn't have any problem.

When we submitted my EAD application, we were confused too. It has more or less the same text as below (in quote) and called USCIS tollfree to clarify it. Oh man, the reps seem not to know the right answer. We called three times and all have different answers. So to be safe, we sent two separate checks (340.00 EAD fee and 80.00 bio fee). After 10 days, we were surprised to receive 1 NOA1 for EAD and 1 rejection notice of the 80.00 bio fee. Basically, we sent an excess of 80.00bucks. But since it was in a separate check, USCIS just return the 80-dollar check to us and proceeded with the EAD process. And 2 months later, I got EAD card in the mail.

I suggest that you send three separate checks for each fee.

The point is: He sent the CORRECT FEE!!! But some idiot at the service center couldn't do simple math, or take a look at the fu$#ing paperwork to see how many people were included.

This is the kind of $hit where you'd like to call them up and go ballistic on them, but unfortunately, the future of your case is still in there incompetent hands!

Somebody did a lot of work on this before they decided to send it back. There are numbers handwritten in red ink all over everything. Then before they sent it back they lined through everything they had marked.

There is something else interesting about the package they returned. They had stapled everything to everything else. So much for the little clip things. They went hog wild with a stapler.

These folks are idiots. We have never had anything go smoothly with them from the start.

This all seems like a joke until you realize that these are the people in charge of homeland security. They don't make me feel real safe.
