I'll also add "Pearl Harbour" (2001) to the list of bad history--due to 6'1" Alec Baldwin being chosen to play 5'3" Jimmy Doolittle (who had only been buried 8 years earlier).

I dunno - he did do the Longest Day and that one where he played Davey Crockett.

Wayne was a pretty bad actor - but I did like him in a couple of the old Howard Hawks westerns. He was good in El Dorado where he was a broken down old man, helping out the town's drunken Sheriff. The Sons of Katie Elder was decent too - but Wayne was very much of the movie era where western bad guys wore black hats to identify them.

He didn't do anything as gritty as the Wild Bunch of Sergio Leone's Dollars movies - though if anything The Searchers probably came close...

Homer took historical liberties too - but Troy was a $hit movie that gutted that particular story (only bit I liked was the duel between Hector and Achilles).

Other big offenders were Gladiator (whole list of accuracy problems with that) and King Arthur (supposedly based on "historical documents").
