House of Representatives (finally) apologizes for slavery and Jim Crow

applause....i grew up in a town where ...blacks had to leave by dark...

the high school was not segerated until my junior year..

and when i graduated..we were given a confederate flag and a diploma..flag sponored by the daughters of the south..

my freind, ernie, a black, used his to patch a hole in his car seat

and i am not that old....this stuff is not ancient history....and went on until finally an out cruy from the general populace

This is the first time an apology has been issued for slavery by the House of Representatives.

Of course again. The same #### over and over and over and over again. I don't think one month has gone by since I have moved here where race is not an issue somewhere.

Okay, apologize and move on. Will it happen? heck no..

I apologize to you, someone didn't explain to you that we still haven't settled this. THAT RACE is still a big issue here and some won't let it go. As long as you do your part right by not making it a problem, it will eventfully go away in the next 100 years.

Native American takeover? The Native Americans...First Nations People...were just that: First. We were here first. I'm VERY curious as to where you get your information on the Native American takeover. Should be interesting.

Indeed it is not ancient history.

Race IS an issue -- let's not kid ourselves pretending to be color blind (or gender blind). Good for the House to do this. In Canada, if I remember correctly, First Nations People and Japanese-Canadians are the only ones who have received official apologies. In my beautiful country, we just pretend there is no racism, while we continue to push our Native peoples into perpetual servitude (which is, me thinks, disgusting and shameful).

Columbus discovered, and didn't take over. Instead, the Indians shared their land with the protestants on the Mayflower. They taught them how to live during the cold, grow corn, etc...

Yes, 1776 was the year of Independence from Britain not the Indians. Later, the new established government divided the lands for the Indians. This is irrelevents to blacks since the US isn't giving lands to them for free.
